In this guide, we want to go over a few ways to help you get the best Artifacts in Genshin Impact.

Learning where to find the Artifacts you need and which stats to focus on will allow you to progress through the game much easier. Not only that, but it will also save you a ton of materials, Mora, and other resources. Enhancing an Artifact that wasn’t all that great, to begin with, might leave you regretting it later. Here’s a breakdown on where to find Artifacts from domains and bosses, how stats and rarities work, and which sets and stats to focus on for your characters.

Where to find Artifacts in Genshin Impact

Artifacts are found in domains and through world bosses in Genshin Impact. Weapons, on the other hand, are found primarily through gacha or crafting. There are five domains that drop Artifacts of different rarity depending on your Adventure Rank.

Which Artifacts come from Bosses?

Domains aren’t the only places to find Artifacts. You can also find them by killing World Bosses, which includes Regisvines (flower bosses), Hypostasis (cube bosses), Wolf of the North (Lupus Boreas), and Stormterror (Dvalin).

Artifact Stats and Rarity

Now that you know where to get each Artifact set, it’s time to learn what’s worth upgrading. Artifact stats consist of two categories: primary stats and sub stats. The primary stats are the main stat on the gear, whereas the sub stats are everything beneath the star rating.

There are also different rarities of Artifacts, which range from 1-star to 5-star. The higher the star level, the better the stats scale with each enhancement. Rarity also affects the max enhancement level.

  • Three-star: Max level 12
  • Four-star: Max level 16
  • Five-star: Max level 20

Artifact Stats and Set Bonuses

There are five Artifact slots in Genshin Impact:

  • Flower of Life
  • Plume of Death
  • Sands of Eon
  • Goblet of Eonothem
  • Circlet of Logos

Each Artifact can have one primary stats and up to four sub-stats, depending on the enhancement level. The sub-stats can roll anything but cannot be the same as the primary stat. Primary stats are also locked for specific Artifacts. Flower of Life always rolls flat HP as the primary, whereas Plume of Death always rolls flat ATK. Sands, Goblet, and Circlet have varying primary stats. Here’s what each of them can roll for primary stats:

  • Sands: Elemental Mastery, Energy Recharge %
  • Goblet: Elemental DMG Bonus, Physical DMG Bonus
  • Circlet: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, Healing Bonus
  • Sands, Goblet, and Circlet: Base HP%, Base ATK%, Base DEF%

Sub-stats, or secondary stats, can never be the same as the primary. Additionally, sub-stats will never be elemental damage bonus, physical damage bonus, or healing bonus. When enhancing your Artifacts, random sub-stats will be enhanced at levels 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20.

Artifacts provide set bonuses for two-piece and four-piece of the same set. That means you can mix two sets for double two-set bonuses. While the best Artifact sets are generally the five-star ones, sometimes, an optimal build will mix and match some four-stars. An example of this could be running Wanderer’s Troupe and Noblesse Oblige on Klee. Other characters benefit from running four-piece sets like Crimson Witch of Flames on Diluc.

How to get the best Artifacts in Genshin Impact

Picking the best artifacts depends on your character and build. For example, a pure support Barbara wants the Maiden Beloved set with primary stats as HP on the Flower, HP% on the Sands, Goblet, and Circlet, and ATK on the Plume. You may also want to swap out for Healing Bonus % on the Circlet if you need more healing in your group. For Barbara, it’s important that you roll an HP sub-stat on all the Artifacts as well.

For pure damage builds, focus on getting your CRIT Rate to around 50%, and then focusing on CRIT DMG%, Base ATK%, and ATK. The most important thing to check before enhancing your Artifact is that you have the optimal sub-stats and primary stats. Here’s an example of a Plume of Death with excellent rolls:

Keep in mind, getting the perfect roll is completely random and very uncommon. You may need to settle for enhancing an Artifact that isn’t perfect until you finally get lucky. We do not recommend stunting your progress in the game by refusing to level anything that isn’t 100% perfect. Refer to our character builds below if you need some guides for specific heroes.
