You can acquire the Cryolator in Fallout 76 as a loot drop by defeating enemies within the Savage Divide or by purchasing the plans from one of the many vendors across Appalachia. The thing is, not every vendor stocks such high-end plans. You can buy the Cryolater plans from the following shops:

  • Free States Vendor (The Whitespring Resort)
  • Shopping Mall Vendor (The Whitespring Resort)
  • Grahm (Travelling Vendor)
  • Vendor Bot Wallace (Berkeley Springs Station)
  • Watoga Vendor Bot (Watoga Station)

Alternatively, if you’d rather fight for your loot, the following creatures in the Savage Divide will drop the Cryolator plans:

  • Behemoth
  • Deathclaw
  • Mega Sloth
  • Mothman
  • Scorchbeast
  • Sheepsquatch
  • Fog Crawler
  • Grafton Monster
  • Hermit Crab
  • Honey Beast

As you can see, these are challenging, larger-than-life enemies that deal a ton of damage. As such, the rewards match their challenge, so prepare for a fight to get your hands on the Cryolator.

How to Craft the Cryolator in Fallout 76?

Once you do have the plans for the Cryolator, you must visit a Weapons Workbench, either at C.A.M.P. or one out in the world, and, with the proper resources, construct your new favorite weapon. To craft the Cryolator, you need:

  • Adhesive
  • Circuitry
  • Glass
  • Plastic
  • Rubber
  • Screw
  • Steel

That said, the Cryolator maxes out at level 45 when crafting. Even at almost level 100, I could not craft one higher than that, as seen in the image above.

Tips When Using the Cryolator

Despite its position as a mid-game or late-game energy weapon, the Cryolator isn’t as effective as most players believe. Sure, it can freeze enemies in place. But to successfully freeze your foe, it takes 25 units of cryo cell. That’s a lot!

We recommend installing quad, two-shot, or explosive legendary effects to bolster this effect if you intend to use the cryolator for any extended period.

Furthermore, the Cryolator is affected by the Grounded perk, which reduces energy weapon damage by 50%. That’s a staggering debuff, so be wary of your perk set when using this weapon.

With such a massive and varied landscape, Fallout 76’s Appalachia provides countless opportunities for new and returning players to delve into a brand-new adventure. For instance, Gamer Journalist can teach you where to find all garden gnome locations!
