Persian Weaknesses and Raid Counters in Pokemon GO

Here's a list of the best Persian counters in Pokemon GO so you can take advantage of those natural weaknesses.

Compared to the likes of Meowth, Persian isn’t an especially interesting Pokemon. It’s less adorably cartoony than its predecessor, and without that little gem thing on its forehead, it’d pretty much just be a large cat. I guess that’s why only eccentric rich dudes like Giovanni ever seem to own them; it’s for appreciating, not fighting. On the off chance you do fight one, though, here are Persian’s weaknesses and Raid counters in Pokemon GO.

Persian Resistances and Weaknesses

Just like Meowth, Persian is a pure Normal type, which means it only has one weakness and one resistance:

  • Double-Resistant to: Ghost
  • Weak against: Fighting

Despite being a second-stage evolution, Persian’s base stats aren’t especially impressive, with all of them either average or below-average. It’s got a base attack of 150, a base defense of 136, and a base stamina of 163. With a max Raid CP of 965, 1206 boosted, it doesn’t have a lot of room to grow either, so you don’t need to worry about those stats suddenly getting crazy.

Persian Moves

Meanwhile, these are the moves Persian has in its kit:

Quick Moves

  • Scratch (Normal)
  • Feint Attack (Dark)

Main Moves

  • Power Gem (Rock)
  • Play Rough (Fairy)
  • Foul Play (Dark)
  • Payback (Dark)
  • Night Slash (Dark, event only)

Persian Counters

Persian is only weak against Fighting type moves, though its ability to use the Fairy type move Play Rough is potentially problematic, as Fighting types are weak to Fairy types.

List of Persian Counters

  • Lucario – Counter/Aura Sphere
  • Blaziken – Counter/Focus Blast
  • SirFetchd – Counter/Close Combat
  • Conkeldurr – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Machamp – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Breloom – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Terrakion – Smack Down/Sacred Sword
  • Toxicroak – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Heracross – Counter/Close Combat
  • Bewear – Low Kick/Superpower

As it so happens, there are two Fighting Pokemon whose particular typing removes that problem: Lucario and Blaziken. Lucario and Blaziken’s Fighting/Steel and Fire/Fighting typings respectively remove the Fairy type weakness. Without that one edge, Persian doesn’t really have anything else in its kit to stop them, as they are either neutral or resistant to the remainder of its kit. Expect this to be a pretty quick fight.

If, for whatever reason, you feel compelled to use a Legendary, Rapid Strike Urshifu will make short work of Persian. It does still have the Fairy weakness, but since its base attack is nearly double Persian’s, you’ll knock it out long before that’s a problem.
