How to Fly a Plane in Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA V)

Flying a plane in GTA V is fast, fun and liberating, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy

Everybody knows that the city of Los Santos is massive, let alone the outskirts of Sandy Shores and Blaine County. While driving across the vast landscape of GTA V is certainly an option, and a much better one than walking, it still doesn’t compare to flying.

How to Fly a Plane in Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA V)

Unlike cars, motorcycles, and boats, operating an aircraft requires a bit of practice. Since you’ll need to understand the ins and outs of taking off as well as landing a plane to avoid plummeting to your demise.

Here are the steps you need to take to safely and successfully fly a plane in GTA V:

  1. Find a plane – This one might seem obvious, but the first thing you’ll want to do is find yourself an airplane. The fastest way to do this is by opening up your phone and buying one from “elitastravel.com”. Keep in mind that to own a plane (or a helicopter), you’ll first need to have somewhere to store it. Luckily, you can begin to buy airplane hangars after you’ve completed Trevor’s mission called “Nervous Ron”.
  2. Fly a plane – Once you have yourself a plane, the next step is to start up the engines and fly it. This can be done by pressing R2 (for PlayStation) or RT (for Xbox) once you’re inside of the aircraft. Which will accelerate the rotors until you’ve gained enough speed to begin your ascension. You can then press L3 to tuck the landing gear away, and use the left analog stick to maneuver the plane up, down, left or right.
  3. Land a plane – Next comes the tricky part; landing. To do this, you will want to keep the plane as level as possible as you slowly descend towards the ground below. You’ll also want to find yourself an open space with a long stretch of land so that you can safely bring your plane to a full stop once you’ve made contact with the ground. Remember that you’ll need to press L3 again before you land to activate the landing gear, and any bumps or uneven surfaces will increase the chances of crashing.
