The Johto Celebration Event is now live in Pokemon GO for players worldwide, paving the way for the Kanto Tour near the end of February. Each of these regional events includes some increased Pokemon spawn rates, special raids, and collection challenges. Trainers going for the Elite Collector Medal will likely want to complete the Collection Challenges as soon as possible. For the Johto collection challenge, one of the more difficult Pokemon to check off your list is Larvitar. Here’s how to catch Larvitar in Pokemon GO.
Johto Celebration Event runs from January 26 through January 31, 2021.
How to Catch Larvitar in Pokemon GO
There are three different ways to catch Larvitar:
- Defeating one-star Raids
- Hatching 5km Eggs
- Timed Research Tasks
The Johto Celebration Event contains special raids, egg hatches, and timed research tasks, among other things. These are three methods to catch a Larvitar. Simply put, you can probably find a Larvitar by participating in the event. Let’s break it down by task, though.
Raids
You can find a Larvitar, along with Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mareep, and Marill, inside one-star raids. There’s always the option to use some remote raid passes to hop in with some friends. Otherwise, you’ll have to visit some nearby gyms at the right time.
5km Eggs
Another way to catch Larvitar is by hatching some 5km Eggs. You can find yourself a Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Wooper, Tyrogue, Smoochum, and Larvitar from these Eggs, so it’s time to spin some PokeStops and get walking.
Timed Research
There are two parts of the Johto Celebration Event Timed Research tasks. For this first part, you’ll need to defeat a Team GO Rocket Leader three times. When you complete this task, the reward is a Larvitar encounter. Out of the three ways to get Larvitar, this one is the only guaranteed method.
