DOOM Eternal Black Screen Solutions

DOOM Eternal releases worldwide on PC on March 20th, 2020. This is the latest installment of the classic first-person shooter by id Software, and possibly one of the most gruesome. Players control Doom Slayer, the demon-slaying son of Commander Keen.

To make sure you get the most out of your DOOM Eternal experience, we wanted to make a guide with some potential fixes to a common issue with the game. Many players are experiencing a black screen while either launching the game or during gameplay.

DOOM Eternal Black Screen Solutions

Black Screen in Full-Screen Mode of DOOM Eternal

If you get a black screen when launching the game in full-screen mode, this is likely due to your antivirus software. You will need to add an exception to your antivirus software for the DOOM Eternal program. Once you do that, the issue should be resolved.

Black Screen Caused by Graphics Card

There’s a high chance the black screen is caused by your graphics card, whether it be due to drivers or some other issue. To start, make sure your drivers are up to date. Depending on your card, head to the appropriate link here to download the latest drivers:

id Software released their recommended drivers for DOOM Eternal here, so if the latest ones are not working you may want to make sure you have one of the following versions.

For AMD Users:

  • Windows 7 – Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-20.3.1-Beta-Mar6
  • Windows 10 – Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-20.3.1-Beta-Mar6
  • Windows 8 – Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.10.1

For NVIDIA Users:

  • Windows 7 – 442.74 Win7 Win8 64bit Game Ready Test Driver
  • Windows 10 – 442.74 Win10 64bit Game Ready Test Driver
  • Windows 10 – 442.74 Win10-DCH 64bit Game Ready Test Driver

Lastly, double-check to make sure your PC does in fact meet the DOOM Eternal minimum PC requirements.
