This past June 21 was a big day for the hit multiplayer title, Fall Guys. Not only did it finally make its way onto the Nintendo Switch and Xbox family of consoles, but it also went free-to-play on all platforms. When making that big switch from being a purchasable game to going F2P there are bound to be some changes. We’ve managed to wrangle up all Fall Guys’ changes since its free-to-play release.
All Fall Guys Changes on Free to Play Release
Legacy Players
Starting off, the way that the game’s developers at Mediatonic treated fans who had already purchased the game before going free-to-play was great. Those who already owned the game were granted a “Legacy Pack” that includes a bunch of crazy customization options as well as the first Season Pass at no additional charge.
Show-Bucks
Something else in the realm of the effect that free-to-play had on this title; a new currency called Show-Bucks was introduced. Similar to Fortnite’s V-Bucks and Warzone’s CoD Points, Show-Bucks can be used to purchase Season Passes or be spent within the Fall Guys Store to purchase costumes, emotes, and so on. While these need to be purchased with real-world money, a player can unlock 300 Show-Bucks in a given Season Pass just for progressing.
Kudos
The other currency that the game has, Kudos, also sees a bit of a change. You’ll no longer receive these at the end of matches and instead will be given to players during events, for completing challenges or unlocking them in the season pass.
Crowns
Crowns have been totally stripped of their spending power and are instead used now as a sort of ranking system. Earning more unlocks additional ranks which in turn unlocks new costumes and customization options. Any Crowns that players had previously earned prior to the free-to-play turn on June 21 were given 3000 Kudos for every crown they had.
Store
The store has seen some changes since going free-to-play with new tabs; Season, Featured, Items, and Show-Bucks. Players will be glad that the devs have ensured that going forward, all tops and bottoms for costumes will be matching. This means you won’t have to wait to complete your costumes all of the time. Additionally, DLC packs have been removed for now but will re-appear in the store in various ways down the road.
Item Rarity
There was a change in the rarity system for items players have either already gotten in the game or are now being implemented. Players may find that the rarity level of some of the items they own has either gone up or even down in some cases. This is said to have been done in order to make the rarity system much easier to understand overall.
Season Pass
Season Passes are still 100 tiers but players who don’t purchase them will only get access to 50 of their rewards. A season pass costs 950 Show-Bucks in order to gain access to every tier as you complete it. Anyone who purchases the first Season Pass gets instant access to the Assassin’s Creed cross-over costume, Ezio.
Challenges
Players that rely on the Daily Challenges will be happy as there are even more to do now. Challenges have been overhauled so players will be able to not only complete Daily Challenges but Weekly and Marathon Challenges as well. Daily Challenges grant users Kudos to spend and Fame to level up their season pass, Weekly Challenges award Fame, and Marathon Challenges awards players Crown Shards which help to rank them up incrementally.
That’s everything! Going free-to-play seems to have had quite an impact on Fall Guys though there doesn’t really seem to be anything negative to comment on. It appears to use a lot of similar systems to other big F2P titles these days and it’s respectable that free rewards were given to legacy players as well.
