Ditto has been available in the Pokemon GO PokeDex since 2016, but just like in the mainline games, it’s next to impossible to just find a Ditto bumming around in the wild. As the Transform Pokemon, Ditto disguises itself to hide from predators by reconfiguring its DNA and transforming into inanimate objects or other Pokemon. This is why, even though Ditto is currently out in force in Pokemon GO, you wouldn’t know it was there, as they’re all in disguise. So, what Pokemon can be a Ditto in Pokemon GO?
As part of Pokemon GO’s April Fools’ Day Event, titled the “2-Oh?-22” event, Dittos are appearing in greater numbers in the wild. However, because they’re all in disguise, you’ll never encounter an obvious Ditto. All you can do is catch a Pokemon and find out it was actually a Ditto after the fact. Luckily, we do have a resource to aid you in this: a list of Pokemon that Ditto is currently disguising itself as.
What Pokemon Can Be a Ditto in Pokemon GO?
All of the following Pokemon have a chance to turn out to be a Ditto upon capture:
- Ekans*
- Gastly*
- Natu*
- Surskit
- Finneon
- Dwebble*
- Swirlix
When you capture one of these Pokemon, you might get a little “Oh?” message, then a reveal that the Pokemon was actually a Ditto. Additionally, any of the Pokemon on that list marked with a * have a chance to be shiny, and that shiny chance extends to Ditto as well.
Shiny Ditto is available in Pokemon GO, distinctive from its usual pink color with a soft cyan blue, and any disguised Ditto you capture will have a chance to be shiny. To clarify, if you find an actual shiny one of these Pokemon, it will not be a Ditto, but any disguised Dittos you find may turn out to be shiny.
The 2-Oh?-22 Event will last until midnight tonight in your local time zone.
