One would assume, given their status as “legendary” Pokémon, that legendaries would be the rarest in the Pokémon games. But technically, legendaries aren’t that rare, since they always appear in specific places or at specific times. The real rare Pokémon are the ones you can’t reliably find in a single place or at a particular time of day. You just gotta roll the dice and hope the RNG is feeling merciful, or else you spend many long, slow days on pointless encounters. So with those shaky conditions in mind, the obvious question is this: what is the rarest Pokémon in Pokémon GO?
Since Pokémon GO can’t spawn Pokémon in precise locations in the world, as it wouldn’t be fair to make one Pokémon exclusive to Hawaii, for example, the conditions that determine which Pokémon appears in the wild lean more heavily toward weather conditions and time of day. Of course, time of day aside, the obvious problem is that you can’t control the weather. It’s that little hiccup that makes some of these Pokémon especially rare.
What is the Rarest Pokémon in Pokémon GO?
Based on user testimonies, one of the rarest Pokémon in the game is Gible, the pre-evolved form of Gabite and Garchomp. It’s Dragon/Ground typing aside, Gible isn’t an especially fancy Pokémon, but for some reason, few people ever seem to stumble onto them in the wild outside of spawn-boosting events. The only real way to make its odds of appearing improve at all is to go looking for it during windy weather, when Dragon type spawns improve. But what the heck is considered “windy weather?” What, is Niantic measuring my local wind speed? How many knots counts as “windy weather” in their book? Well, anyway, if you’re looking for Gible, I guess go outside when it’s windy but not raining.
Several other young Dragon types also experience this strange scarcity, such as Deino and Axew. All three of these Pokémon can appear in the wild, but more often than not, simply don’t. They can spawn from a 10 KM egg, but A: that’s basically the same thing as rolling the dice on a wild spawn, and B: you gotta walk 10 KM for that. So I guess if you were hoping to evolve up a Garchomp, Hydreigon, or Haxorus, you’re gonna have your work cut out for you, to say the absolute least.
