Goodness gracious me, there’s a lot of Pokémon on the horizon. I mean, I guess there’s always a lot of Pokémon on the horizon; it’s literally the most ubiquitous franchise in the whole world. But with Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokémon Legends Arceus, and Pokémon UNITE right around the corner, we won’t be spoiling for Pokémon games any time soon. Speaking of that last one, when is the Pokémon UNITE release date, anyway?
After leaving things murky for a little while, Nintendo launched the official YouTube channel for Pokémon UNITE yesterday. The channel includes a new trailer for the game, in which we got timeframes for the game’s release on Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms.
When is the Pokémon UNITE Release Date?
Pokémon UNITE will be available for download on Nintendo Switch sometime in July 2021, with mobile platforms to follow two months later in September 2021. Oh, and before you ask, yes, both crossplay and cross-progression via one’s Pokémon Trainer Club account or Nintendo account are planned to be available once the game is available on both platforms.
To reiterate in case you forgot, Pokémon UNITE will be a strategic team-battle game, colloquially known as a MOBA, in a similar vein to DOTA 2 or League of Legends. The game will be free-to-start on both platforms, with an in-game store selling premium items like character skins. You can buy the game’s premium currency, as well as earn certain currencies through gameplay, which can be exchanged for Pokémon hold items and Trainer customization options.
The game will also feature a Battle Pass, similar to Ninjala or Fortnite, that gives paid players the opportunity to earn seasonal rewards as they level up their profiles.
