Pokémon GO Yveltal Raid Counters

Am I the only one who thinks Yveltal looks cool? All of my friends say it looks dopey, but come on! It’s a big evil bird thing with claws and a mane! And it shoots crazy death lasers! Yeah, the Y-shape is kinda dumb, but name me a Pokémon with a perfect design. If you want to see Yveltal for yourself, here are its raid counters for Pokémon GO.

Starting next week on Tuesday, May 18th, the Luminous Legends X event, headlined by Xerneas, will be replaced with the Luminous Legends Y event, headed up by Xerneas’ destructive counterpart, Yveltal. Much like the Xerneas raids available now, Yveltal Legendary Raids will be sprouting up all over the place, giving you a chance to take a swing at the death from above and potentially catch it.

Yveltal and Xerneas have identical base stats: 250 Attack, 185 Defense, 246 Stamina. The obvious difference between the two is that where Xerneas is a pure Fairy type, Yveltal is a Dark/Flying type. Double-typing means wider resistances, but also more weaknesses. Here’s how Yveltal’s resistances break down:

  • Resistant to: Ghost, Grass, Dark
  • Double-resistant to: Ground, Psychic
  • Weak against: Fairy, Ice, Electric, and Rock

As for its kit, Yveltal mostly sticks to Dark and Flying moves, though it does have a few curveballs.

Quick Moves

  • Sucker Punch (Dark)
  • Snarl (Dark)
  • Gust (Flying

Main Moves

  • Hyper Beam (Normal)
  • Dark Pulse (Dark)
  • Psychic (Psychic)
  • Hurricane (Flying)
  • Focus Blast (Fighting)

As with most Pokémon weak against Ice types, we can once again call upon our good friend Mamoswine to go up against Yveltal, though Mega Abomasnow and Galarian Darminatan have the muscle to stand their ground as well. If Legendaries are on the table, the man of the hour is Therian Thundurus, as well as Zekrom and Raikou. Otherwise, Mega Manectric or Electivire will also do the job just fine.

As far as Legendary Raids go, Yveltal’s nothing special, so just go at it with its type weaknesses and it should go down without too much fuss.
