Pokémon buffs have speculated on the origins and inspirations of the Destruction Pokémon Yveltal ever since it was first revealed prior to the release of Gen VI. The most common theories are that it draws from various mythological birds, such as the Celtic goddess Morrigan or the gigantic Norse eagle Hræsvelgr. Whatever its inspiration, Yveltal is big, bad, and shoots lasers. Here’s the best moveset for Yveltal in Pokémon GO.

As a Dark/Flying type, Yveltal’s kit naturally has an abundance of Dark and Flying moves, plus a sprinkle of Normal, Psychic, and Fighting for good measure. Here are the moves in Yveltal’s kit:

Quick Moves

  • Sucker Punch (Dark)
  • Snarl (Dark)
  • Gust (Flying)

Main Moves

  • Hyper Beam (Normal)
  • Dark Pulse (Dark)
  • Psychic (Psychic)
  • Hurricane (Flying)
  • Focus Blast (Fighting)

Best Moveset for Yveltal in Pokémon GO

If you’re in pursuit of raw DPS, the best course of action is for Yveltal to stay in its lane and use its Flying moves. Out of its Quick Moves, Gust has the highest damage output, while out of the Main Moves, Hurricane packs the most muscle. If you want to play a little more defensively and focus more on building energy, Gust is still the best choice for Quick Moves, as it has the best balance between EPS and DPS. For Main Moves, though, Hyper Beam is a better defensive pick as it consumes far less energy than Hurricane while still dealing respectable damage.

If you’re concerned about weakness exploitations, Focus Blast is also a solid defensive pick, packing similar stats to Hyper Beam while also working to fend off Yveltal’s weakness to Rock-type Pokémon. It’s a teensy bit slower than Hyper Beam, but compensates with a teensy bit more damage, so I’d say it balances out.
