Everyone loves Snorlax. It’s been a recurring element in Pokemon games since the first generation, with its perpetually sleepy face and big, round belly. Everyone would love to hug a Snorlax, though perhaps not everyone would want to fight Snorlax, given its prodigious size. Unfortunately, it can be a tough customer on the rare occasion it wakes up, so you’d better be ready. Here are Snorlax’s weaknesses and Raid counters in Pokemon GO.
Snorlax Resistances and Weaknesses
As a pure Normal type, Snorlax is one of the simplest Pokemon in the entire Pokedex, with only two changes in its resistances:
- Double-resistant to: Ghost
- Weak against: Fighting
Snorlax’s strength lies not in its resistances, but rather in the sheer variety of moves it has available in its kid.

Snorlax Counters
Unfortunately for Snorlax, compared to its generation I days, it’s actually not that strong of a Pokemon. Both its base attack and base defense are less than 200, which makes its stats mid-tier at best. It does, however, have a high base stamina, which means it can use a lot of moves before taking a break, so even with its underwhelming attack, it can still overtake you in damage if you don’t get rid of it swiftly.
Given Snorlax’s rather clear-cut resistances, it’s pretty obvious what you need here: a Fighting type. Unfortunately, no Fighting types will be entirely resistant to Snorlax’s giant kit, especially given their weaknesses to Psychic moves like Zen Headbutt and other Fighting moves like Superpower. As such, the best course of action is to go forgo defense and go for pure DPS in hopes of cutting it down before it can trap you in its rhythm.

When it comes to DPS, the unquestioned Fighting type king is Lucario, whose doubled-up Fighting moves can exploit Snorlax’s weakness with aplomb. Lucario is, however, weak against both Fighting and Ground moves, so you’ll need to try to finish the fight as quickly as possible. The same general rule goes for other Fighting types like Conkeldurr and Machamp.
If Legendaries are available, Rapid Strike Urshifu will be your best friend. Its got offense roughly equal to Lucario’s, but the only thing Snorlax has that it’s weak against is Zen Headbutt, making it a much safer pick.
