It’s rather annoying to keep track of which Pokémon can be shiny in Pokémon GO and which can’t. Shinies are almost never added to the game’s PokéDex at the same time as their typical variants, and it’s anyone’s guess when they finally will be. All you can really do is go through each Pokémon one at a time and check yourself. On that subject, is there a shiny Swinub in Pokémon GO?
I’m going to give you some good news and some bad news here. The good news is that yes, there is a shiny Swinub in Pokémon GO. Shiny Swinub has been available in the game since the Swinub Community Day event back in February of 2019. It’s a lovely green coloration, looking not unlike a watermelon, making this exceptionally cute Pokémon all the cuter.

The bad news is that if you don’t have a shiny Swinub already, you just missed your best chance to get one, possibly for a long time. Yesterday, Tuesday, June 22nd, was the Swinub Spotlight Hour. During this hour, Swinub appeared in force with an elevated chance to spawn as shinies. Unfortunately, Spotlight Hours only last one hour, so if you’ve been out of the loop, then you’ve missed the boat.
It’s anyone’s guess as to when shiny Swinub will be widely available again. Technically, shiny Pokémon can be encountered at all times, even when an event isn’t running, but the odds of this occurring at all, to say nothing of it being a Pokémon you actually want, are miniscule at best. All you can really do for the time being is be patient, and perhaps scope out areas with Ice/Ground types like Swinub spawn more frequently, such as sunny plains and snowy mountains (though you might have to wait until Winter in the latter case).
