Is Serperior Good in Pokemon GO

Pokémon GO: is Serperior any good?

Maybe it’s just because I watched too many cartoons growing up, but I was always under the impression that snakes would be a more consistent problem in my life, right up there with quicksand and American cheese. To this day, though, I’ve only ever seen maybe two snakes in person. It’s a shame, actually; fictional creatures like Serperior have made me more appreciative of snakes. Their little tongues are cute. Oh well. While we’re on the subject, is Serperior good in Pokémon GO?

After the most recent Community Day event on April 10, a whole bunch of Snivys are now circulating throughout the Pokémon GO community, which means a whole bunch of Servines and a whole bunch of Serperiors. As a Grass starter, Serperior has a natural predisposition toward being an exceptional Pokémon, but what do the stats say?

Is Serperior Good in Pokémon GO?

As a pure Grass type, Serperior’s resistances break down like this:

  • Resistant to: Water, Grass, Electric, Ground
  • Weak against: Fire, Flying, Poison, Bug, Ice

Serperior has a Max CP of 2277, up to 2574 with XL Candies. That’s made up of an Attack of 161, a Defense of 204, and a Stamina of 181. Only a purely statistical level, Serperior is pretty middle-of-the-road; not terrible, but nothing especially interesting.

Serperior’s kit features the following moves:

Quick Moves

  • Vine Whip (Grass)
  • Iron Tail (Steel)

Main Moves

  • Aerial Ace (Flying)
  • Grass Knot (Grass)
  • Leaf Tornado (Grass)
  • Frenzy Plant (Grass, event-exclusive)

With a combination of Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant (if you were quick enough to jump on it while it was available during Community Day), Serperior can deal some pretty decent DPS. The problem is type coverage, or rather lack thereof; Aerial Ace could be used to fend off Bug types, but other than that, Serperior’s predominantly Grass-based kit doesn’t do anything for it outside of a very particular niche. It’s not a bad Pokémon per se, but there are much stronger, more versatile Grass types available, so it shouldn’t be your first choice for league matches if you can help it.
