How to Get Gumshoos in Pokemon GO

Here’s a fun fact: the term “gumshoe,” a slang term used to refer to private detectives, came about in the 1900s. Private eyes had be very discreet to do their jobs properly, so they often wore shoes with gummy rubber soles that would allow them to walk quietly, the same kind of shoes we know today as sneakers. The Pokemon Gumshoos is meant to evoke the image of a detective with its trenchcoat-like fur and perpetual grimace. If you’d like to hire a detective of your own, then here’s how to get Gumshoos in Pokemon GO.

Gumshoos, alongside its pre-evolved form Yungoos, were added to the Pokemon GO Pokedex with the beginning of the Season of Alola last week, since they’re both Alola-based Pokemon. As a second evolved state, Gumshoos doesn’t naturally occur in the wild. The only way you can get one is by evolving a Yungoos.

There are lots of Yungoos wandering around in the wild right now thanks to the Season of Alola, which is good, because you’ll need to catch at least 50 of them to get the 50 Yungoos Candy necessary to evolve Yungoos into Gumshoos. In addition to the candy, though, Yungoos’ evolution into Gumshoos has a secondary requirement: you can only perform the evolution during the day. It’s not really clear what daytime has to do with being a detective, though the species of mongoose Yungoos is based on is apparently nocturnal, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Anyway, once you’ve got your 50 Yungoos Candy and it’s nice and bright out, you can evolve your Yungoos using the Evolution button on its details page.
