How to Evolve Gloom in Pokemon GO

Learn how to evolve Gloom into Vileplume or Bellossom.

I’m no gardener, so I have no idea what kind of plant Gloom is supposed to be. All I know is that it smells bad, and its drool is apparently some kind of paralytic honey. If you want a plant-y Pokemon, don’t just settle for a weird-looking drooling bulb thing, get something a little flashier! Here’s how to evolve Gloom in Pokemon GO.

Just like in the regular Pokemon games, Gloom has two evolutionary paths: the Grass/Poison type Vileplume, and the pure Grass type Bellossom. They’re both pretty good Pokemon in their own rights, though Vileplume does have a higher base attack stat and fewer weaknesses than Bellossom. Either way, if you want to evolve Gloom into one of these Pokemon, you’re going to need to get some resources together.

How to Evolve Gloom in Pokemon GO

First and foremost, whether you’re evolving into Vileplume or Bellossom, you’re going to need to put 100 Oddish Candy together. Pokemon GO’s Sustainability Week event is still running until 8:00 PM today, April 25th, and Oddish spawns are boosted while it’s running, so you’ve still got some time to gather lots of them for their Candy. Once the event ends, you’ll have to go back to the old-fashioned way of checking in spots where Grass types show up, such as parks and forests.

Whenever you’ve got the 100 Oddish Candy, you’re gonna need to make a choice. If you want a Vileplume, you can evolve Gloom with the 100 Oddish Candy right away, and it’ll become a Vileplume. If you want a Bellossom, on the other hand, there’s one more step.

An evolution from Gloom to Bellossom requires both the 100 Oddish Candy and a Sun Stone. There’s no easy way to get a Sun Stone, unfortunately. You’ll just have to spin PokeStop and Gym signs until you get lucky and one drops. If you spin signs every day for a week, your odds of getting an evolutionary item will increase, so keep at it!

Once you’ve got the Sun Stone, you can choose to use it along with the Candy to evolve your Gloom into a Bellossom.
