Considering the number of snake-like Pokemon, it’s kind of surprising that there are only two mongoose-like Pokemon, and one of them, Zangoose, really looks more like a weird cat than a mongoose. If you need a proper mongoose-like Pokemon in your life, Yungoos is definitely the one you want, and as it so happens, Yungoos has just been added to Pokemon GO. Here’s how to get Yungoos in Pokemon GO.
Pokemon GO’s Welcome to Alola event has just begun as of today, March 1st, and will be lasting until March 8th. This event kicks off the game’s new Season of Alola, during which a variety of Pokemon that originated in the Alola region are being added to the game. Yungoos is one of those Pokemon, along with its evolved form Gumshoos, and while the event is going on, Yungoos are all over the place.
How to Get Yungoos in Pokemon GO
For the duration of the Welcome to Alola event, there are two ways to encounter (and hopefully catch) a Yungoos. The first is by simply walking around in the world all getting lucky. Spawn rates on Alolan Pokemon have been boosted for the event, and since Yungoos isn’t an especially rare Pokemon, your odds of just stumbling upon one in the world are pretty good.
The second method is to complete Field Research Tasks. One of the Field Research Tasks for the Welcome to Alola event, Walk 1km, will reward you with an encounter with either a Yungoos or a Pikipek upon completion. You may get this task by spinning PokeStop signs, and you can get it more than once if you don’t get the Yungoos encounter the first time around.
Can Yungoos be Shiny in Pokemon GO?
As is often the case when new Pokemon are added to the Pokemon GO Pokedex, I’m sure plenty of you are wondering whether or not Yungoos has a chance to be shiny. Normally, the answer to that would be no, as Niantic doesn’t usually add shiny variants to the game alongside the initial debut. Surprisingly, though, Yungoos has proven itself to be an exception, as its shiny variant has been added to Pokemon GO alongside its debut. Any Yungoos you encounter during the Welcome to Alola event have a chance to be shiny, so get out there and catch a bunch of them!
