Like the other Gen VI Mythical Pokémon, Diancie and Voncanion, the existence of Hoopa leaked well before it was implemented into any actual Pokémon games. As such, it’s always been a bit of an… ephemeral Pokémon, even after its official debut, seemingly appearing and disappearing at random. Still, with Pokémon GO Fest 2021 starting tomorrow, commemorating the game’s fifth anniversary in the process, if Hoopa were to show up, now would be a great time. So, can you catch Hoopa during Pokémon GO Fest 2021?
Earlier in the week, dataminers were hard at work picking apart Pokémon GO’s latest update in the hopes of getting a sneak preview of any new and rare Pokémon and events that would be unleashed during GO Fest. One plucky dataminer uncovered a startling fact: the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa would, in fact, be making an appearance during the event. Naturally, one would come to the conclusion that this means catching Hoopa will be on the table, but unfortunately, that’s not quite the case.
Can you Catch Hoopa during Pokemon GO Fest 2021?
After the datamine report went out, Niantic almost immediately sprung into action with a clarification: Hoopa will indeed be appearing during the event, but it will not be available for capture. The only Mythical Pokémon that will be available for capture during the event will be Meloetta.
All that said, there is still a possibility that this could be a precursor of events to come. After the GO Fest, there are still the Ultra Unlocks to get to for the duration of the summer season, and it’s been confirmed that one of those Ultra Unlocks is themed to Space. While Palkia may be a safer assumption for space-based matters, Hoopa does dabble in spatial manipulation, so it wouldn’t be unusual to see it.
