Here’s a fun fact: according to PokéDex entries, Eevee’s ability to evolve into many different types is a result of an unstable genetic code. When those genes are exposed to the particular radiation of evolutionary stones or particular environments, they change rapidly to adapt. I wonder if that means an Eevee would evolve if you sat one on top of a microwave… Well, anyway, if stones and microwaves are off the table, there are other ways to evolve an Eevee! Here’s how to evolve your Eevee in Pokémon GO with nicknames.
The evolutionary stones you’d commonly see in the main line Pokémon games, such as fire stones, thunder stones, and water stones, don’t exist in Pokémon GO. As a result, you can’t cause an Eevee to evolve into one of its numerous forms in the traditional manner. If you feed an Eevee enough candy to make it evolve, one of its forms will simply be selected at random, which can be a pain in the butt when you’re trying to fill out the PokéDex. Luckily, there is a trick to ensure you get at least one of every Eevee evolution.
Pokémon GO Eevee Evolution Names
You can set an Eevee on the path toward a particular evolution type with one simple trick: giving it a nickname. There’s a secret nickname for every Eevee evolution (except for Sylveon, who isn’t in the game yet), so if you give your Eevee that name and evolve it, it’s guaranteed to evolve into the corresponding form. The evolutionary nicknames for Eevee in Pokemon GO are as follows:
- Jolteon: Sparky
- Flareon: Pyro
- Vaporeon: Rainer
- Umbreon: Tamao
- Espeon: Sakura
- Glaceon: Rea
- Leafeon: Linnea
One word of caution: each one of these nicknames only works once. That is to say, you can’t name twenty Eevees “Sparky” and expect to get twenty Jolteons. Only the first one that evolves is guaranteed to be a Jolteon; after that, the nickname is just a nickname.
