Chansey Weaknesses and Raid Counters in Pokemon GO

Most Pokemon have a sort of… look about them. You take a glance at one and you think “yeah, that’s cute, but I also see how it could kill me.” Chansey is not one of those Pokemon. Everything about this egg-shaped critter radiates kindness and friendliness, to the point where you can’t help but wonder why anyone would ever want to pick a fight with one at all. Even so, Chanseys do head up Raids in Pokemon GO sometimes, though it’s a puzzler how they even got up there. Regardless, it’s in your way and must be defeated, so here are Chansey’s weaknesses and Raid counters in Pokemon GO.

Chansey Resistances and Weaknesses

Chansey is a pure Normal type, so it only has one resistance and one weakness:

• Double-Resistant to: Ghost
• Weak against: Fighting

Chansey Counters in Pokemon GO

As I mentioned before, Chansey is not a fighter by any stretch of the imagination. Its base attack is a paltry 90, and its base defense isn’t much better at just 128. The only thing Chansey really has going for it is its base stamina, which is admittedly astronomical at 487. So while Chansey’s individual moves don’t do a lot of damage, it can perform a lot of them without resting, which could be potentially problematic if you’ve got a bad type matchup.

• Conkeldurr – Counter/Dynamic Punch
• Breloom – Counter/Dynamic Punch
• Machamp – Counter/Dynamic Punch
• Blaziken – Counter/Focus Blast
• SirFetchd – Counter/Close Combat
• Hariyama – Counter/Dynamic Punch
• Terrakion – Zen Headbutt/Sacred Sword
• Alakazam – Counter/Focus Blast

Luckily, there’s a clear choice for a Chansey counter: Lucario. As a Fighting/Steel type, Lucario is either resistant or neutral to everything in Chansey’s kit, and with one of the highest non-Legendary base attacks on a Fighting type in the game, it can tear right through Chansey’s Fighting weakness at no risk to itself. If Lucario isn’t available, Alakazam or Galarian Zen Darmanitan would work in a pinch, since they aren’t weak to Psychic moves and can use Fighting moves.

If you’d like to add insult to injury, Single Strike Urshifu would be your choice of Legendary. Just be careful, as its Fighting/Dark typing does make it weak to Fairy moves like Dazzling Gleam.
