How to Catch Dark Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO

How to Catch Dark Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO

Dark was one of the first new types to be added to the mainline Pokémon series, first appearing in Generation II. Dark Pokémon are rude, crude, and don’t much care what you think about that. While that makes them a bit hard to handle, their exceptional cunning and willingness to fight dirty makes them great partners. Of course, before you can even consider that, you need to find some Dark Pokémon. Here’s how to catch Dark Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO.

Since Dark Types don’t have any kind of obvious elemental affinity like Water or Grass Types, it can be a bit tricky to find a consistent spot where they hang out. In general, though, you want to look for places that are either consistently dark, or kind of spooky. Examples of this include movie theaters, cemeteries, and creepy landmarks and tourist attractions. If you want to improve your chances of finding a Dark Type, you should think less about the where and more about the when.

How to Catch Dark Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO

To catch Dark Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO:

  1. Search generally dark or spooky locales like cemeteries or movie theaters
  2. Search when it’s dark out, after 8:00 PM
  3. Search when it’s foggy outside

Dark Types tend to come out more frequently at night, when it’s, y’know, dark out. Typically, Dark Type spawn rates will increase around 8:00 PM in your local time zone. Creepy weather patterns like fog or mist can also subtly improve the spawn rate of Dark Types.

Do note that it’s not always safe to meander around at night, so if you’re hunting for Dark Types, you should stay close to home. People also may not appreciate you using your phone in a movie theater or cemetary, so please be respectful of the rules.
