During the event, players get access to Moonblast, which shakes things up a bit and might make trainers wonder: what’s the best moveset for Altara in Pokemon GO? Overall, Altaria is weak against Ice-, Dragon-, Fairy-, and Rock-type Pokemon. It’s resistant to Ground-, Grass-, Water-, Fire-, Fighting-, and Bug-type.

What’s the best moveset for Altaria in Pokemon GO?

The best moveset for Altaria in Pokemon GO is Dragon Breath for the fast move and Moonblast and Sky Attack for the charged move.

Being a Flying- and Dragon-type Pokemon, Altaria has access to a few different powerful skills. The skills include:

Fast Moves

• Dragon Breath (Dragon)
• Peck (Flying)

Charged Moves

• Dazzling Gleam (Fairy)
• Dragon Pulse (Dragon)
• Moonblast (Fairy)
• Sky Attack (Flying)

With the May Community Day in full effect, many trainers managed to catch themselves lots of Swablu and evolve into Altaria for the event-exclusive Moonblast attack. So, how does this affect PvP? Not all that much, but there are some things to consider. 

Comparing the Moonblast move to Dazzling Gleam, we are getting a similar skill for ten less energy. According to PVPoke, you’ll pick up a few more wins on Cresselia, Drifblim, and Munchlax in Great League and be able to defeat Mandibuzz using Moonblast over Dragon Pulse.

In Premier Cup, you will pick up a win over Swamper using Moonblast over Dazzling Gleam, but you would still be able to beat the Swamper with Dragon Pulse. In the Open League, there doesn’t appear to be any benefit.

Overall, it’s definitely a good idea to teach Altaria Moonblast. Otherwise, you’ll have to use an Elite TM on it if you want the move. There’s not much of a difference over using Dragon Pulse or Dazzling Gleam, but you do get some minor advantages.
