Slowpoke has long been one of the Pokémon franchises unofficial mascots. Whenever someone shows up extremely late to some meme or trend, you can expect to see images of Slowpoke floating around. It’s a silly little Pokémon with a silly face, but it deserves to be celebrated just as much as any other Pokémon. With that in mind, here’s an event guide for “A Very Slow Discovery” in Pokémon GO.

In addition to celebrating Slowpoke and its contemporaries, Slowbro, and Slowking, “A Very Slow Discovery” features a variety of decisively slow-paced events, from Raids to Field Research Tasks. Before all that, let’s highlight the main event: both Galarian Slowpoke and Mega Slowbro have officially been added to the Pokémon GO PokéDex, and can be encountered in One-Star and Mega Raids, respectively. More on that in a minute.
Firstly, the following Pokémon will be appearing more frequently in the wild:
- Slowpoke
- Slakoth
- Gulpin
- Spoink
- Slowbro (Rare)
- Vigoroth (Rare)

Here are the Field Research Tasks you can pick up, and their rewards:
- Catch 8 Water type Pokémon: Rewards a Slowpoke encounter
- Catch 8 Psychic type Pokémon: Rewards a Slowpoke encounter
- Give your buddy 3 treats: Rewards a Gulpin encounter
- Win a Raid in under 10 minutes: Rewards a Slakoth encounter
- Win a Raid in under a minute: Rewards a Galarian Slowpoke encounter
- Evolve a Psychic type Pokémon: Rewards a Slowpoke or Shellder encounter
- Evolve a Slowpoke: Rewards 20 Mega Slowbro Energy
- Evolve any Pokémon: Rewards a King’s Rock
- Evolve any 3 Pokémon: Rewards a Galarian Slowpoke encounter
Thirdly, if you want to win some neat junk, try to complete the Very Slow Discovery Challenge. All you need to do is obtain a Slowpoke, a Slowbro, a Slowking, and a Galarian Slowpoke. Get all four, and you’ll be rewarded with 3000 XP, 30 Ultra Balls, and a free Slowpoke t-shirt for your avatar.
