Slugma is one of those Pokémon that just feels kind of… obvious? I mean, I probably wouldn’t have thought of a slug made of magma on my own, but then you see Slugma and you’re like, “yeah, that makes sense.” The same goes for its evolution, Magcargo. It just works, y’know? The only way we can make such a sensible Pokémon more interesting is if we made it shiny. But is there a shiny Slugma in Pokémon GO?
As it’s appeared in the mainline Pokémon games, Slugma’s shiny form forgoes its usual bright orange hue in favor of a striking metallic grey that almost makes it look like molten steel. Magcargo gets a little wilder, trading out its orange for a deep purple, kinda like that weird purple ketchup Heinz used to make. As it so happens, tonight, March 30th, Pokémon GO will be having its last Spotlight Hour of the month, and the star this time around is none other than Slugma. As with the other Spotlight Hours, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time, Slugma’s spawn rates will receive a major boost. This would, in theory, be a great time to go hunting for a shiny Slugma, right? Well, it certainly would be if one existed.
Is there a Shiny Slugma in Pokémon GO?
As was unfortunately the case with Surskit, Slugma (and by extension Magcargo) is one of the few early gen Pokémon that have yet to have their shiny variations implemented into Pokémon GO. You can catch as many Slugma as you want during the spotlight hour tonight, but not a single one of them will be shiny.
If it makes you feel any better, the Spotlight Hour for next Tuesday, April 6th, will focus on Buneary, whose shiny variation has been implemented into the game. So maybe you can’t get a shiny magma slug today, but you can get a shiny fluffy rabbit thing next week. Gotta take the small victories sometimes, I guess.
