For those who have already played through the original FF7 know, Square Enix has already taken a few liberties with the story and how it all comes together with FF7 Remake. Because of this, many people had been wondering if they were going to take the same approach with Crisis Core FF7 Reunion or just exactly what this game was going to be. Is this another retelling of a story we have all read? Or is this simply a remastered connector game that will further tie in more plot points into their upcoming main FF7 sequel?

Well the answer can be a bit ambiguous if you ask the devs. Square Enix put out a article outlining the many reasons why the game “is more than a remaster.” They outline the various upgrades and refinements to graphics as well as core mechanics of the game. However, because this game doesn’t outright change pretty much anything story or gameplay wise from it’s original PSP counterpart, Crisis Core FF7 Reunion would be considered a remaster.

This is not your everyday run-of-the-mill remaster though. Akin to the like of remasters such as The Last of Us Part 1, the developers have aimed above and beyond the call of duty. They’ve worked to update and modernize the game while keeping in touch with the original games essence. Everything that made people fall in love with Zack and his story are still there. They now just look very detailed and fully voiced, which helps provide further worldbuilding for the entirety of the Final Fantasy 7 universe.
