The process can be confusing for new players, and there are various ways to unlock new characters. In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock characters in Genshin Impact.
How to Unlock Characters in Genshin Impact
There are a few different ways to unlock characters in Genshin Impact. The main methods are by playing through the story and using wishes. Playing through the story unlocks a few starter characters that you can use to fill up your party and start progressing through the game. Starter characters include Amber, Kaeya, and Lisa, all of which are obtainable through the Archon Quests.
You can also unlock characters by “pulling” them from banners with wishes. New players get free Wishes by leveling their Adventure Rank and are guaranteed a free character this way. If you play on PC, hit the F3 key to bring up the Wish menu. Alternatively, click the portrait on the top left of the screen and then click Wish. From this screen, you can see different banners, including bundles on which you can spend your wishes.
When spending your Wishes, we recommend only pulling them in stacks of ten. The reason to do this is that you are guaranteed a 4-star item or higher on every tenth pull. Different banners provide different odds of receiving specific characters. If you are after one character, in particular, make sure to check the banners frequently to see if any entice you.
