This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The new Minecraft Nether Update adds many new features into the game, including a block called the Respawn Anchor. Players can use this block to set a spawn point anywhere in the Nether, which can end up saving a lot of travel time. The new item works similar to the Minecraft Overworld Bed, but the process is a little different. Here’s how to make a Respawn Anchor in Minecraft Nether Update.

How to make a Respawn Anchor in Minecraft

To make a Respawn Anchor, players will first need to find Crying Obsidian. The recipe for crafting a Respawn Anchor is 6 Crying Obsidian and 3 Glowstone. Obtaining Crying Obsidian can be done in three different ways. Easiest of all, players can trade gold ingot to Piglins for a ~10% chance for one to three Crying Obsidian. The rare block is also found in chests at the new Bastion Remnants in the Nether or the Ruined Nether Portal on the Overworld.

Place the Respawn Anchor at any location in the Nether you want to respawn. Right-clicking on it will set the respawn point. Fill it with Glowstone Blocks by using the activate button while holding Glowstone to charge it. The Respawn Anchor holds four charges and uses one every time a player respawns on it. If there are no more charges available, the respawn point falls back to the Overworld starting location.

This new block and its respawn feature has a few unique uses aside from spawning. It’s now possible for map creators to have checkpoints within the Nether. Minecraft is available on PC and all consoles, including mobile, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. Check out how to update to Minecraft Nether for your particular device.
