In most fantasy settings, whenever a magic-user gets a little carried away, they have a tendency to start constructing pocket dimensions. Within these magical realms, the laws of physics are a little more flexible, if not a lot more disorienting. If you’d like to visit a place like that for some reason, then here’s how to get to Arcane Sanctuary in Diablo 2.
How to Get to Arcane Sanctuary in Diablo 2
The Arcane Sanctuary is a mysterious underground structure constructed by the Vizjerei Mage Horazon. Apparently, he made the thing to serve as a safe space, where he could conduct his magical research without fear of punishment by the forces of Hell for enslaving some demons. Seems kind of rude to step into someone else’s lab without announcing yourself, but he does have some cool stuff to take, so it’s probably fine.

To enter the Arcane Sanctuary, you’ll need to find the secret portal located within the Palace Cellars, which in turn is located beneath the Harem of Jerhyn’s Palace. You’ll need to find the Arcane Sanctuary as part of the main questline in Act 2 of the game’s story; the Palace itself is blocked until you’ve completed the quest “Tainted Sun” and gained access from Jerhyn himself.
Finding the Portal
Once you’ve made your way into the Palace Harem, you can start fighting your way through to find the stairs and enter the Palace Cellars. The Cellars have three levels, at the lowest level of which you’ll find the entrance to the Arcane Sanctuary. Since Diablo 2 randomizes its map layouts to keep things interesting, we can’t tell you exactly where to find the portal on the third level of the Cellars. That said, according to player testimonials, the portal is generally located somewhere within the center-most area of the level.
Once you find the portal, interact with it to power it up and step through into the Arcane Sanctuary. Step carefully here; the passages are very narrow, and it’s very easy to fall off. If you’ve got a teleportation ability on deck, this will be the place to use it.
