Memes aside, Sylveon is one of the cutest and cuddliest of Eevee’s evolutions. It loves being close to its Trainer, wrapping it in its prehensile ribbon-like appendages in a hug. It’s like a dog/cat/fox thing that loves you and everything about you! It certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s a capable Fairy-type combatant as well. If you’d like to have a cuddly quadruped in your life, then here’s how to get Sylveon in Pokemon GO.

The point of commonality between all of Eevee’s evolutions is the base requirement. Specifically, you need 25 Eevee Candy in order to initiate any of Eevee’s evolutions, which means catching a bunch of them. Eevees are pretty common, though, so that shouldn’t be too tall an order. Once you’ve got the candy, then comes the special steps.

How to Get Sylveon in Pokemon GO

Currently, there are three confirmed ways to evolve an Eevee into a Sylveon:

1. The Random Method
2. The Naming Method
3. The Buddy Method

The Random Method

If you check an Eevee’s details page, rather than a silhouette next to the Evolve button, there’s just a question mark. This is because, if you were to give an Eevee the 25 Eevee Candy without fulfilling any other prerequisites, it’ll evolve into one of its eight higher forms at complete random. Technically, you can get a Sylveon in this way, assuming you don’t mind betting on one-in-eight odds, but this isn’t exactly an efficient way of doing this.

The Naming Method

Every Eevee evolution has a special name associated with it. If you give an Eevee the special name corresponding to an evolution, then evolve it with the 25 Candy, it’s guaranteed to be that evolution. In Sylveon’s case, the special name is Kira. Bear in mind, this trick only works once per evolution. If you name another Eevee Kira and evolve it, it will become a random form.

The Buddy Method

This is considered the “proper” way to get a Sylveon. As was the case in the mainline Pokemon games, an Eevee will evolve into a Sylveon when it sufficiently likes you, though unlike in those games, it doesn’t need to know a Fairy type move.

First, you need to make the Eevee you want to evolve your Buddy. Next, you need to earn at least 70 Buddy Hearts with it. You earn Buddy hearts by walking with your Eevee, battling with it, feeding it berries, and just generally paling around with it. You can only earn around 12 Buddy Hearts per day by doing stuff with your Eevee, though you can boost that payout by feeding it a Poffin. Regardless, it’ll probably take you about a week or so to earn enough. Once you’ve got 70 Buddy Hearts, check the details page and there should be a silhouette of Sylveon next to the Evolve button. Give Eevee the 25 Candy, and you’ve got a Sylveon.
