How to Get Plusle and Minun in Pokémon GO

You ever notice how every single generation of Pokémon has its own clone of Pikachu? I mean, it makes sense; Pikachu’s the moneymaker for the franchise, so to keep the money flowing, they gotta make sure every new set of Pokémon has its own rough approximation of Pikachu. Not counting Pichu in Gen 2, since Pichu is part of Pikachu’s evolutionary line, the first in this series of clones were Plusle and Minun. Here’s how you can get both in Pokémon GO.

Currently, Pokémon GO is running the Hoenn Collection Challenge, wherein you need to catch nine different Pokémon that originated from the series’ third generation. These nine Pokémon are:

  • Treecko
  • Torchic
  • Mudkip
  • Nincada
  • Nosepass
  • Aron
  • Plusle
  • Minun
  • Bagon

Most of these Pokémon can be encountered in the wild and during raids like normal, but Plusle and Minun have a special extra condition that needs to be met.

How to Get Plusle and Minun in Pokémon GO

To find Plusle and Minun, you need to complete a specific Field Research task, ‘Catch 11 Pokémon.’ Catching 11 Pokémon is easy, you could do that on a lunch break. The hard part is actually obtaining the Field Research task; it could just take a minute, or if you’re unlucky, it could take a lot longer.

To get the right Field Research task, visit any of your local PokeStops and give ‘em a spin to receive a random one. If you receive any Field Research task besides ‘Catch 11 Pokémon,’ dump it and spin again. As I said, if you’re lucky, this won’t take too long, but unfortunately, there’s no more concrete way to obtain the proper task.

Once you finally get the task, just do as it says at catch 11 Pokémon. Any 11 are fine, and dupes are also permitted. Once you’ve completed the task, Plusle and Minun will appear in the world with 50% spawn rates each, so hunt ‘em down and catch ‘em!
