How To Counter Stealth Killers in Dead by Daylight

Stealth Killers can sneak up on you at a moment’s notice, make sure you’re always one step ahead

Dead by Daylight is full of Killers, 28 to be exact. Even though each has it’s own unique traits, stealth Killers are by far and away the most fearful. As a result, one of the most important skills to learn as a Survivor is how to counter them.

Here is everything you need to know about how to counter stealth Killers in Dead by Daylight.

How To Counter Stealth Killers in Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight Killers like The Ghostface, The Pig, The Spirit and The Wrath are some of the deadliest because they’re good at avoiding detection from the Survivors. Meaning they can pop up and strike out of nowhere before the Survivor ever has a chance to escape.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do as a Survivor to give yourself a fighting chance.

#1 – Enable Spine Chill

The majority of the Survivor perks in Dead by Daylight won’t prove of much use when you’re matched up with a stealth Killer. However, that’s not the case with the Spine Chill perk. That’s because enabling this perk essentially ensures that the Killer won’t stalk you without you first being alerted of their presence.

In fact, the perk’s icon will light up in the HUD whenever the Killer is on the prowl, which acts as an excellent warning sign. With the Spine Chill perk activated, every time a stealth Killer is within 36 meters of them, the Survivor will receive the following buffs;

  • Increases the Trigger odds of skills checks by 10%.
  • Decreases the skill check success zone by 10%.
  • Increases action speeds in repairing, healing, sabotaging, unhooking, vaulting, cleansing, opening and unlocking by 6%.

#2 – Be aware of the Killer’s strengths (and weaknesses)

Another extremely important thing to remember is that every Killer in Dead by Daylight has it’s own distinct set of strengths and weaknesses. Even though these special abilities are what makes each stealth Killer so deadly, knowing what they are can also help you better prepare when you come face-to-face with them.

For example, The Wrath uses the power of invisibility by ringing his bell. However, this can only be completed if he’s standing still and he will need to become visible again before he wants to attack. Which means that if you sense he’s nearby, simply running away will essentially disarm him.

Similarly, The Pig goes undetected when they’re crouching down. Although, this also slows them down quite a bit, making them more vulnerable and less likely to sneak up on you without knowing about it.

All in all, understanding what the stealth Killer is capable of doing to you is one of the best ways to counter them in combat.

#3 – Keep your eyes and ears open

Last but certainly not least, arguably the single most important thing you can do as a Survivor is keep your head on a swivel. Dead by Daylight is full of eerie sights and sounds, so, simply staying vigilant is easily one of the best ways to counter a stealth Killer.

This doesn’t just mean rotating the camera to ensure that the area around you is safe, but it also means to be conscious of the Killer’s telltale signs. For example, stealth Killers are known to take unusual paths and angles when they’re ready to strike. This way they can sneak up on the Survivor without them knowing. By paying attention to your whereabouts, as well as the patterns of their movement, you can always stay one step ahead.

Understand that stealth Killers tend to stick to the edges of the map or take the long way around structures. So, you can counter them fairly easily by avoiding these sort of locations. Also, always resort to the HUD when another Survivor is being chased down. This way you can be aware of the Killer’s last known location whenever said Survivor gets downed.
