How to Change Your Work Outfit in Sims 4

How to Change Your Work Outfit in Sims 4

Learn how to change your work outfit in Sims 4 in a few simple steps by using the in-game command console.

I’m really glad my generation realized that wearing a suit and tie every day is pointless when you don’t work in a customer-facing job. If you have to spend half your day typing at a desk, you should be able to do it in comfortable clothes at the very least. Unfortunately, your Sims in Sims 4 automatically dress up for work whether they like it or not. Now, that doesn’t seem fair, does it? Let’s fix that. Here’s how to change your work outfit in Sims 4.

Sims 4’s regular gameplay mechanics don’t allow you to change the outfit that your Sim wears when they go to work. As such, the only ways to change the outfit that they wear is to either use the game’s built-in console command cheats or to install certain mods. If that kind of futzing with the game bothers you, well, you’re out of luck. For everyone else, here’s the low-down.

How to Change Your Work Outfit in Sims 4

To change your work outfit with cheats in Sims 4

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + C to open the command console and type “testingCheats [true]” to enable cheats.
  2. Type “sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas” in the command console to bring up the Create-A-Sim menu.
  3. The clothes you select in this menu will be the clothes your Sim wears to work.

Before you can do any kind of cheating in Sims 4, you need to enable the usage of cheats. This can be done by pressing Ctrl + Shift + C on your keyboard to bring up the command prompt, then typing in “testingCheats [true]” and pressing Enter.

Once cheats are live, bring up the command console again and type “sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas” followed by Enter again. This will bring up a special version of the Create-A-Sim menu. You’ll dress up your Sim as usual here, but when you exit out, your Sim will still be in their usual attire. When they go to work, they’ll put on the outfit you set up. Remember that some clothes are work specific, and can’t be found in the Create-A-Sim menu. If you try to force your Sim to wear those clothes, you could mess up your save data, so just stick to the menu.

If you’d rather take the modding approach, there’s a well-regarded mod known as “Plan Career Outfit” that you can install onto your copy of the game. You can download it from here, then follow the directions to install it. Once it’s set up, all you have to do is have your Sim interact with a dresser, closet, or mirror, and you can change up their work outfit freely.
