Fly solo, or build a team to accompany you on your mission to find your lost sibling and discover what the strange planet offers. You can enjoy this action packed adventure on PS4, iOS, Android, or PC.

Although many players agree Genshin Impact is fantastic, one aspect is causing an uproar across the internet, and it’s about the traveler’s gender. You may choose Aether (male) or Lumine (female) as the protagonist at the beginning of the story, but is there a way to swap your character’s gender afterward?

Can You Change the Traveler’s Gender in Genshin Impact?

No, you cannot change the traveler’s gender in Genshin Impact, and many players are up in arms about this. The reasons for this reaction vary. Some fans of the franchise are upset because they believe the protagonist they’ve chosen is annoying, so they want to change him or her. Others simply want to experience playing as the other sibling. 

Unfortunately, the only way you can play as the opposite gender is by starting a new save file. But of course, many aren’t willing to start over and throw away the hard work they put into their first save file. I know I wouldn’t be.

Reddit users continue to voice their opinions on the platform, discussing why the option is needed or not. Some say the change in gender would disrupt the plot progression, which could make a jarring gameplay experience. Others argue that the change in gender is purely cosmetic, so there’s no need to worry about such a thing.

Fair warning: if you’re expecting a difference in gameplay based on which gender you choose, you’re in for a rude awakening. Both twins’ stats, attack styles, or weapons are all the same. Therefore, choosing the main character completely depends on which person is aesthetically pleasing to you. 

Regardless, players have bombarded the developers with requests to switch genders in Genshin Impact on platforms from Twitter to Hoyolab, which is HoYoverse’s online forum. We have yet to hear a response on whether they’ll make the adjustment.
