Can You Catch Shiny Sudowoodo in Pokemon GO?

Can You Catch Shiny Sudowoodo in Pokemon GO?

When you realize that Sudowoodo is actually a long rock pretending to be a tree, that just makes it even weirder. I’ve heard of creatures evolving to look like foliage, like stickbugs and such, but how does a creature come into being that’s exactly tall and wide enough to mimic a small tree? Or, better question, which came first: trees or Sudowoodo? Well, before we go down that hole, let’s tackle the easier topic of shiny Sudowoodo. So, can you catch shiny Sudowoodo in Pokemon GO?

Can You Catch Shiny Sudowoodo in Pokemon GO?

The good news is that yes, Sudowoodo’s shiny variant does exist in Pokemon GO. It was added to the game back in August of 2019 alongside the Gift Event. Compared to a regular Sudowoodo’s wood-like brown coloration, a shiny Sudowoodo has more of a soft green coloration, kinda like a blade of grass. Additionally, instead of the regular Sudowoodo’s bright green “leaves” at the ends of its hands, a shiny Sudowoodo’s “leaves” are a deep autumn red.

The bad news is that you just missed your opportunity for an easy catch (or at least an easier catch). Last week, March 22nd, saw a Spotlight Hour event, the star of which was Sudowoodo. Sudowoodo spawn rates were boosted that day, which made shiny hunting a teensy bit easier than usual.

Without the aid of a Spotlight Hour or special event, you’ll have to hunt for Sudowoodos the old-fashioned way. As a pure Rock type, Sudowoodos typically spawn around areas with lots of, well, rocks. Places like quarries, parking lots, hiking trails, and city streets are more likely to have Rock types show up, and if you’re lucky, one of those Rock types will be a Sudowoodo.
