Can You Catch Shiny Paras in Pokemon GO?

Can You Catch Shiny Paras in Pokemon GO?

I make a point of trying not to think about Paras too often on a daily basis. The big eyes, the parasitic mushrooms; it’s got a bunch of unsettling implications I’d rather not have on my mind. That said, if there are shiny Paras on the table, I’m more than willing to brave the emotional scarring for a few minutes, though of course there have to be shiny Paras available to begin with. So, can you catch shiny Paras in Pokemon GO?

Can You Catch Shiny Paras in Pokemon GO?

Some good news for you: yes, Paras’s shiny variant is available in Pokemon GO. It was added to the game back in 2021 during the Pokemon GO Kanto Tour event. You can discern a shiny Paras from a regular Paras by its deeper red coloration, as well as the brighter yellow spots on the mushrooms on its back. Naturally, this availability also extends to Paras’s evolved form, Parasect.

So how can you get yourself a shiny Paras? Well, once again, you’re in luck; today, March 29th, is the last Pokemon GO Spotlight Hour of the month, and the star of the show is none other than Paras!

Tonight, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in your local time zone, wild spawns for Paras will be boosted exponentially, so while the rate of shiny appearances remains the same, the sheer number of Paras popping up during the Spotlight Hour will improve your odds of finding a shiny one. Even if you don’t end up with a shiny Paras at the end of the event, all catch candy received while the event is running will be doubled, so it’ll be a great time to farm some Paras Candy, as well as Candy for any other Pokemon that happen to show up.
