Best Steel Type Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Best Steel Type Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Introduced alongside Dark typing way back in Generation II, Steel types are some of the heartiest Pokemon around, often boasting numerous type resistances and high defensive stats. Of course, they’re no slouches in the attacking department either; while Steel types can occasionally take a little time to get going, once they’re revved up, nothing can stop them. Steel types are great either for defensive builds or just looking cool, but in either case, you’ll want to assemble your team from the toughest Steel types around. Here are the best Steel type Pokemon in Pokemon GO.

For the purposes of this list, we’ll be selecting a handful of Pokemon and comparing their highest possible DPS potential and total damage output, based on a hypothetical build with their two most optimal moves. These Pokemon will be divided into a few different categories, just to give you a little variety when building your team of mechanoids.

Best Steel Type Pokemon in Pokemon GO

  • Perrserker
  • Metagross
  • Crowned Sword Zacian
  • Dialga
  • Mega Steelix

Perrserker

First up, we have the best pure Steel type, a Pokemon with only Steel typing and nothing else. Steel is usually more of a supplementary type, so there aren’t many of these, but if we had to pick one, it would be Meowth’s unique Galarian evolution, Perrserker. Perrserker has an optimized DPS of 10.44 and a total damage output of 341.71.

Metagross

Next, we’ve got the best mixed-Steel type Pokemon, a Pokemon with Steel as either their primary or secondary type. Anyone with even a passing knowledge of Steel types knew we were going to see this guy: the undisputed king of Steel types, the Steel/Psychic Metagross. Metagross features an optimized DPS of 16.06 with a total damage output of 792.68. There’s a reason Metagross is Hoenn Champion Steven Stone’s signature Pokemon, y’know.

Third up, we’ve got the best Shadow Steel type Pokemon. This is a Steel type Pokemon that has been liberated from a Team GO Rocket grunt that takes more damage in exchange for boosted offensive stats. Once again, Metagross reigns supreme with an optimized DPS of 19.55 and a total damage output of 965.22. Holy moley.

Crowned Sword Zacian and Dialga

Fourth on the checklist is Legendary Steel types, an officially recognized Legendary Pokemon with either pure or mixed Steel typing. This is a bit of a tricky one because technically the best Legendary Steel type Pokemon is Galar’s shining blade, the Fairy/Steel type Crowned Sword Zacian. Crowned Sword Zacian has an optimized DPS of 18.60 and a total damage output of 973.17.

However, while Crowned Sword Zacian is undoubtedly the strongest Legendary Steel type in the Pokemon GO Pokedex, it cannot actually be obtained in the game right now, so if you don’t already have one, you can’t find one. As such, we have to give its position to the runner-up, the avatar of time, the Steel/Dragon type Dialga. Dialga has an optimized DPS of 14.87 and a total damage output of 732.53.

Mega Steelix

Finally, we have the strongest Mega Evolved Steel type, a Pokemon that either picks up a Steel type from Mega Evolution or maintains an existing one. For this one, we have to give it up for the O.G. of Steel type Pokemon, the one that started it all, Mega Steelix. In its Mega Evolved form, Steelix has an optimized DPS of 15.19 and a total damage output of 1009.85.

So who’s the reigning champ of the scrap heap? To pretty much no one’s surprise, it’s Shadow Metagross, with its combined DPS and total damage output giving it the kind of damage potential that can put even the strongest Legendary Pokemon in their place.
