Best Characters To Use Against Geo Hypostasis in Genshin Impact

Best Characters To Use Against Geo Hypostasis in Genshin Impact

If you’re trying to level up any Geo-based character in Genshin Impact, you will most likely need to grind out several fights with the Geo Hypostasis boss. This pure elemental being also goes by the name Gimel. Battling Gimel isn’t necessarily a difficult fight, as long as you pay attention to your team composition and weapon types. Instead, the Geo Hypostasis battle is about endurance and patience. Here’s our guide for the best characters to use against Geo Hypostasis in Genshin Impact.

Battle Notes and Tips

To succeed in the fight against Gimel, there are a few things you want to keep in mind. Here are just a few simple tips to help you claim victory against this boss.

  1. Don’t take your eye off the enemy. Even study it, if you can. Gimel can teleport (or “blip”) from one place in the arena to another. Oftentimes these blips indicate either a change in attack pattern or a moment of weakness. Respond accordingly.
  2. Use claymore wielding characters (or Zhongli) to destroy the Geo pillars as quickly as possible.
  3. Geo is a tough element, so you’ll want to focus on creating as many elemental reactions as possible and hitting Gimel hard.
  4. Keep a shield on you at all times! Seriously.
  5. You can only damage Gimel when the outer shell is not protecting the glowing core. The shell will not take any damage, so wait until it vanishes and then start attacking when it’s down.

The following section will be split up into 5-Star characters and 4-Star characters and explain why these specific characters are helpful for this fight.

5-Star Characters

Being the god of Geo definitely has its benefits when it comes to fighting the Geo Hypostasis. If you have Zhongli, or plan to roll for him on his upcoming banner rerun, keep in mind that he is able to easily drain the Geo life force from Gimel’s pillars (hold Zhongli’s Elemental Skill). Thus, you won’t have to be so patient with this fight if you have him on your team.

As you can see, Zhongli is incredibly useful. As the Geo Hypostasis loses HP, it will eventually summon three final pillars that will allow it to regain health if they are not destroyed. Either stand in the middle of them and drain their power with Zhongli’s Elemental Skill, or obliterate them with his Elemental Burst.

Don’t forget, though, as a Hypostasis, Gimel is immune to the Geo element. Don’t use Zhongli to actually attack the boss. Instead, cripple its defenses with his abilities.

If you’re lucky enough to have the powerful Diluc, we recommend using him for this fight. His claymore weapon will help tear down the Geo pillars, and his Elemental Skill and Burst can do insane damage (especially if paired with a Cryo character).

As one of the more unique characters in Genshin Impact, Klee is quite capable of taking down Gimel with her powerful explosions. Much like Diluc, you’ll want to pair this adventurous child with a Cryo character to maximize her damage output.

While the other 5-Star characters are more obvious choices, Xiao is still incredibly strong. For this reason, he is well-suited for the fight against Gimel. Xiao’s Elemental Burst will, at the very least, leave quite the scar on the boss’s health bar.

4-Star Characters

One of the best characters to use against Gimel is Chongyun. Not only will his claymore be useful in tearing down the Geo pillars, his Elemental Skill will also infuse the Cryo element on sword, claymore, or polearm users. This will be incredibly helpful for creating lots of elemental reactions. Swing Chongyun’s frost-covered broadsword, then quickly switch to a Pyro character to do some massive Melt damage.

There’s nothing wrong with using Xinyan for the Geo Hypostasis battle, in fact we recommend using her if she’s one of your only claymore users. Stacked up next to some of the other characters, however, she might not be as beneficial unless you take advantage of elemental reactions like Melt or Overloaded.

As a healer and protector, Noelle’s shield could be very helpful during this fight. Like Zhongli, however, be careful not to use her Geo-based attacks on Gimel as they won’t do anything.

The benefit of using Razor over many of the other claymore users (especially for this fight) is that you’ll consistently do heavy physical damage. With Razor, it’s as simple as swinging the sword and hitting hard. You’ll also be able to tear down the Geo pillars and set up some pretty strong explosive reactions if he’s paired with a Pyro character.

Protect yourself with Beidou’s Elemental Skill (which acts like a shield when held), and then unleash a powerful Electro attack. If you don’t have another character that can shield you in some way, highly consider adding Beidou to your team for this fight.
