How to Use Defit in Pokemon GO

GPS-connected games like Pokemon GO are cool because they, in theory, encourage you to walk around outside and explore your town or city. Of course, there are a multitude of factors that may discourage you from doing this. Maybe you don’t live in a great neighborhood, maybe you have some manner of physical disability, or maybe you just don’t have the time during the day to go on lengthy walks. Whatever the case, if you can’t participate in the directly physical element of Pokemon GO, there are… other ways to accomplish its walking requirements. Here’s how to use Defit in Pokemon GO.

Defit is an app available on the Google Play and Apple App stores, with its name being short for “Debug Fitness.” Basically, it’s an app that you can use to fool fitness apps and games with movement requirements into thinking you’ve been walking around when you actually haven’t. In the case of Pokemon GO, it’s very handy for hatching eggs, since it adds the kilometers for you instead of you having to walk around in circles all day.

Now, full disclosure, Defit is a completely separate app, not affiliated with Niantic or The Pokemon Company in any way. As such, using this app to futz with Pokemon GO is technically considered cheating, even if it’s a rather benign form of it. This means that using Defit to fool Pokemon GO could result in Niantic softbanning your account, and indeed, many players have suffered such bans. If you intend to use Defit to fool Pokemon GO’s activity records, you’d do well to use it as little as possible, so as not to draw suspicion. Try to keep the distance you “travel” in a particular week to below 500KM.

How to Use Defit in Pokemon GO

To use Defit in Pokemon GO

  1. Download the Google Fit or Apple Health apps
  2. Activate Adventure Sync in Pokemon GO to sync your activity with your fitness tracker
  3. Download Defit and sync it with your fitness tracker
  4. Add activity time in Defit, and it’ll reflect in the fitness tracker and Pokemon GO

To use Defit to trick Pokemon GO’s activity records, you’re going to need to use the Google Fit function on your Android device or the Apple Health function on your iOS device. These are general fitness apps that your device probably has pre-loaded, or else you can just download them from their respective app stores. Pokemon GO features a special setting called Adventure Sync that allows it to sync up with your fitness tracking in Google Fit or Apple Health. All you have to do is turn it on in Pokemon GO’s settings, then give Pokemon GO tracking permissions in Google Fit or Apple Health.

Once the apps are synced up, you can download Defit and make an account, making sure to use the same email you log into Pokemon GO with. From Defit’s main menu, you can sync it up with your Google Fit/Apple Health, and by extension, with Pokemon GO. When everything’s synced up, you can add activity time to your fitness tracker from Defit’s menu, which should reflect on the fitness tracker and Pokemon GO.

Remember, Pokemon GO can detect when you’re obviously cheating, so whenever you add activity time, remember to leave the game alone for an amount of time proportional to the time you added. For example, if you were to add 1250 KM worth of activity, you should let the game cool down for about two hours. Doing too much too fast is likely to result in a softban.
