I have never, in my entire life, ever known anyone who didn’t like Dratini, and even if there were such a person out there, I don’t think I’d want to know them. How could you not like Dratini? It’s a cute little water worm thing with big eyes and a bigger nose, and besides that, it eventually evolves into Dragonite, the OG of Dragon type Pokemon. The whole Dratini line is an absolute good, and anyone with any aspirations of Pokemon mastery wants to catch one and evolve it all the way up. Speaking of which, here’s how to evolve Dratini in Pokemon GO.
While Dratini and its subsequent evolutions are undoubtedly valuable Pokemon, since they’re all from the first generation, none of them have any especially wacky requirements when it comes to their evolution. All you need is lots of Dratini Candy, though when I say “lots” I do mean “lots.”
How to Evolve Dratini in Pokemon GO
In order to evolve a Dratini into its second form, the majestic Dragonair, you’ll need 25 Dratini Candy. In order to evolve Dragonair to the third and final form, the coveted Dragonite, you’ll need 100 Dratini candy. That’s a grand total of 125 Dratini Candy to get a Dratini all the way up to a Dragonite.
There are a few ways of getting large quantities of a particular Pokemon’s candy, including walking around with one as your Buddy and trading them across long distances, but the first and foremost means of getting the stuff is catching Pokemon. Every Pokemon you catch, Dratini in this case, yields one Dratini Candy, two if you feed it a Pinap Berry during the catching process. If you’re lucky enough to catch a Dragonair, that’ll give you two Dratini Candy, and if you somehow catch a Dragonite, that’d give you three Dratini Candy.
So where do Dratinis usually hang out? Based on feedback from the Pokemon GO community, pure Dragon types like Dratini typically appear near major landmarks. Y’know, things like tourist attractions, large city parks, and for some reason, golf courses. It’s also been said that Dragon types appear more frequently on windy days, though that may just be a rumor. Regardless, if you’re on the hunt for large quantities of Dratini, hit up your local monument and start looking around.
