Mihoyo is at it again with another Genshin Impact event, called Windtrace, which begins on May 14 and lasts for about ten days in total. The event is a co-op and crossplay event, where players play a short game of hide and seek. Travelers will be randomly assigned a role as either a Rebel or a Hunter, and must act accordingly. Participating is a great way to earn Primogems, Mora, materials, and other rewards. We’ll cover everything you need to know in our Genshin Impact Windtrace Event complete guide.
Genshin Impact Windtrace event release date and details
The Genshin Impact Windtrace event begins on May 14 at 10 am Server Time and ends on May 24, 2021, at 4 am Server Time.
Players must be adventure rank 20 or above to participate in the event.
Where to find Gygax for the Windtrace Event in Genshin Impact
Gygax is located in Mondstadt at the start of the Windtrace Event. Speak with Gygax and tap on the Start Matching option at the bottom of the screen, and then click accept when the co-op window pops up to participate in the Windtrace Event.
Genshin Impact Windtrace Event rewards
During the Windtrace event, travelers can participate in a game of Windtrace at Gygax’s and earn Windtrace Coins, the event currency. Trade-in Windtrace Coins for rewards like Primogems, the Celebration Peekaboo Event Namecard, Character XP materials, Mora, and more.
The Windtrace event is a co-op event, meaning you can form a custom co-op party or use the randomized matching function. Windtrace Coins can only be obtained when using the randomized matching function. However, players can still earn the rewards from Windtrace Challenges while in a co-op party.
Windtrace Coin rewards include Primogems, Mora, and Character XP materials. On the first day, players can earn 1200 Windtrace Coins, and the amount increased by 800 per day for the six subsequent days after the event begins. That means 1200 Windtrace Coins on day one, 1800 Windtrace Coins on day two, and so on.
Windtrace Challenge rewards can give you up to 250,000 Mora for completing them all. The challenges include detecting many rebels using the sensor aura, winning a game as a rebel, laying Bait to obscure a hunter’s vision, and so on.
Genshin Impact Windtrace Event: How it works
Travelers will randomly play as either a Hunter or a Rebel on one of five possible locations.
- Small Town Guerilla War
- Winery Confrontation
- Drifters in the Terrace Depths
- Ghost-Fire Stream
- Ice-Sealed Maze
Random props will spawn into each location, which you can use to hide around as a Rebel. It’s the Rebels’ job to hide from the Hunter and Hunter’s job to catch all the Rebels.
If the Rebels do not get caught, they win the game. Likewise, if the Hunters catch the Rebels, they win the game. Each side has some special skills to help them out, which we’ll cover below, known as Windward Arts.
In addition to the Windward Arts, Travelers can use a Secret Favor, a glowing orb that spawns near the end of the game. Pickings up a Favor charges your Secret Favor. Both Rebels and Hunters can use the Secret Favors, and the Hunters get Insight, Hunter’s Intuition, or Imprisoning Curse, while Rebels get Starstep.
Rebel Guide
The Rebels must hide from the Hunters and not get caught for the duration of the game. The Rebels a few Windward Arts (skills):
- Lay Bait: Obscures hunter vision. Place the Bait in an area ahead of the Hunter to confuse them. When the Hunter captures the Bait, it obscures their vision for a time.
- Transparency: Temporarily enter hidden mode, during which time the Hunter cannot see you. It dispels your current disguise.
The Rebels have the following Secret Favor:
- Starstep: Movement speed is greatly increased for the next thirty seconds.
You can choose which character you can use when not in disguise mode, so shorter characters might be a good idea to hide better!
If you’re hiding as a Rebel, be sure not to hide near another Rebel because the Hunter could get a two-for-one deal and have a significant advantage. Enter disguise mode by pressing E and long-press E to remove the disguise.
Find a location with a few props in the area, and spawn in some more props using your skill. Hide among the other props to confuse the Hunter, but be sure not to move, or they might notice you!
The Hunter can obtain a favor, which can spawn at the last minute of the event. A Hunter’s burst removes a Rebel’s disguise and highlights them with glowing light, but it’s easy to win if no Rebels have been caught yet. Pay attention to the minimap because you’ll be able to see where the Hunter is going. Always run the opposite way or keep track of their position, so you know where to go if things get dangerous.
Hunter Guide
The Hunters must capture all of the Rebels within the time limit. Hunters have a few Windward Arts they can use:
- Mysterious Hunch: Briefly shows the direction in which all Rebels are hiding.
- Sensor Aura: Scout a fixed area around yourself. The game will notify you if a Rebel is in the area.
- Capture: Dispel the disguise of a nearby Rebel and capture them (3 charges).
The Hunters have the following Secret Favor:
- Imprisoning Curse: Randomly dispels the disguise of one Rebel and restrains them for a short time.
- Hunter’s Intuition: Randomly dispels the disguise of a Rebel and marks their location on the minimap for a long time. Nearby targets are marked with a pillar of light and cannot disguise themselves.
- Insight: Dispels the disguise of all Rebels and marks their location for a short time on the minimap. It shows the position of nearby Rebels on the scene with a pillar of light.
Mysterious Hunch is helpful because the areas to hide are not all that large. The cooldown for the skill is long, though, so keep it in mind. Hunters can use Insight early if they cannot find any Rebels before getting the burst ready.
The other two moves are helpful when you find one or two Rebels but cannot find the third one since they only affect a single Rebel.
