How to take Snapshots of Wild Pokemon in Pokémon GO for the Pokémon Snap Celebration

New Pokémon Snap comes out tomorrow! Good gravy, it’s been twenty-two years since the original Pokémon Snap launched on the Nintendo 64. That game’s old enough to vote! But no matter how long we had to wait, we all knew it’d be back eventually, and now that it’s here, it’s time to celebrate! Here’s how to take snapshots of wild Pokemon in Pokémon GO for the Pokémon Snap celebration.

To celebrate the release of New Pokémon Snap, Pokémon GO has added a new slew of timed Field Research Tasks with a heavy emphasis on taking photos of wild Pokémon, just like in New Pokémon Snap. Conveniently, since Pokémon GO is a phone game, you’ve already got a camera on hand to do such a thing! 

How to take Snapshots of Wild Pokemon in Pokémon GO for the Pokémon Snap Celebration

Taking a picture of a wild Pokémon is easy. All you gotta do is find a Pokémon in the wild and tap on it on your screen, just like a regular encounter. Before you start chucking PokéBalls at the Pokémon, though, look toward the top of your screen for a small camera icon. Tap the icon, and your interface will shift to let you take pictures of the Pokémon. Don’t worry, it won’t run away while you’re doing this.

To complete the Field Research tasks, you’ll need to do the following:

Part 1

• Take a Snapshot of Metapod, Aipom or Lotad in the wild
• Use 3 Berries to help catch Pokémon
• Take 3 Snapshots of wild Pokémon

Part 2

• Take a Snapshot of Sandshrew, Trapinch or Cacnea in the wild
• Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon
• Take 3 Snapshots of wild Ground Pokémon

Part 3

• Take a Snapshot of Chinchou, Finneon or Ducklett in the wild
• Use 7 Berries to help catch Pokémon
• Take 3 Snapshots of wild Water Pokémon

Part 4

• Take 15 Snapshots of Wild Pokémon
• Take a Snapshot of Dodrio, Mantine or Skarmory in the wild
• Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon

Also, don’t forget that every picture you take has a chance to be photobombed by a wild Smeargle! You’ll definitely want this to happen, as for the duration of this event, Smeargles have a chance to be Shiny! You’ll have until the event ends on Sunday, May 2nd at 8 PM local time to get all this done!
