Smelting is one of the five refining trade skills in New World, alongside Woodworking, Leatherworking, Weaving, and Stonecutting. The Smelting process turns Ore into Ingots, required for various professions such as Armoring, Weaponsmithing, Jewelcrafting, and Engineering. In this New World Smelting leveling guide, we’ll give you a breakdown of all the numbers you need to know to get your skill from level 0 to 200.

New World Smelting Leveling Guide (0-200)
- Smelting Level 0-50: Iron Ingot or Silver Ingot
- Smelting Level 50-100: Steel Ingot
- Smelting Level 100-150: Starmetal Ingot
- Smelting Level 150-200: Orichalcum Ingot
Smelting level | Ingots | Raw Materials |
0-50 | 391 Iron Ingots | 1,564 Iron Ore |
50-100 | 671 Steel Ingots | 2013 Iron Ingots 1342 Charcoal 671 Flux |
100-150 | 591 Starmetal Ingots | 3546 Starmetal Ore 1182 Steel Ingot 1182 Charcoal 591 Flux |
150-200 | 994 Orichalcum Ingots | 7952 Orichalcum Ore 1988 Starmetal Ingot 1988 Charcoal 994 Sand Flux |
Smelting Level 0-50
To get from Smelting level 0 to 50, you will need a total of 14,056 Smelting Experience. That translates to roughly 391 Iron or Silver Ingots, ore 1,564 Iron or Silver Ore. You can refer to our guide on where to find Iron in New World if you would like to take a look at some example routes.
Smelting Level 50-100
To get from Smelting level 50 to 100, you will need a total of 152,934 Smelting Experience. That translates to roughly 671 Steel Ingots, which requires 2013 Iron Ingots, 1342 Charcoal, and 671 Sand Flux. You can refer to our guide on where to find Gold in New World if you would like to look at some farm routes.
Note that you can also opt to use Gold Ore to smelt into Gold Ingots. Gold gives slightly more Smelting experience, but it is much harder to come by than Iron, so it is not nearly as efficient. However, you could get lucky and set some low buy orders to pick up Gold Ore cheap at the Trading Post or just have some from your farming routes to complement your Steel production.
For Gold Ingots, you will need 504 Gold Ingots, or 2520 Gold Ore, 1008 Silver Ingots, and 504 Sand Flux. You’ll notice the raw materials are much higher than Steel, so we’d recommend going with the former option and just mass-producing Steel and possibly making a few Gold Ingots with the extra materials you pick up from your mining route.
Smelting Level 100-150
To get from Smelting level 100 to 150, you will want to make Starmetal Ingots exclusively. Each Starmetal Ingot requires 6 Starmetal Ore, 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Charcoal, and Flux. You will need a total of 1,201,106 XP to go from Smelting level 100 to 150. That equates to roughly 591 Starmetal Ingots, or 3,546 Starmetal Ore, 1,182 Steel Ingot, 1,182 Charcoal, and 591 Sand Flux.
Again, you can go with Platinum, but it’s not nearly as efficient, much like the case with Steel versus Gold. Remember to look at our guide on where to find Starmetal or Platinum if you need some help.
Smelting Level 150-200
To get from Smelting level 150 to 200, you will need a total of 9,949,809 Smelting experience. That translates to roughly 994 Orichalcum Ingots, or 7,952 Orichalcum Ore, 1,988 Starmetal Ingot, 1,988 Charcoal, and 994 Sand Flux.
That concludes the New World Smelting leveling guide. It is a straightforward process on paper, but it will require either a ton of money or time spent mining. Our recommendation is simply level is alongside another primary profession like armoring or weaponsmithing. If you focus on Jewelcrafting, you can use the alternatives and concentrate more on Silver, Gold, and Platinum for Smelting levels.
How to increase your chance to smelt more items in New World
One overlooked aspect of smelting, and other refining skills, is the ability to create bonus items. You have a chance to craft additional items at the Smelter, which goes up with your Smelting level. However, you can also influence this number by using higher quality flux. That means instead of using Sand Flux, you can use Shelldust Flux and Obsidian Flux.
While at a smelter, pay attention to the right side of the window where it says “potential bonus.” There is a row for “chance to craft additional items,” and you can see it change when selecting different rarities of Flux for, say, Steel Ingots, for example. In theory, you could purchase a ton of Iron Ore, smelt it into Steel Ingots, and reap massive profit.
