One of the major draws of Genshin Impact, at least as far as its mobile port goes, is that it’s a full-scale console-quality game that you can play on your phone. And they’re not just saying that like with a lot of mobile games, it really is console quality, since it’s, y’know, on consoles. But since the game is available on mobile platforms and high-quality consoles, one can’t help but wonder if it’s on a mid-point between those two. In shorter terms, is Genshin Impact on Switch?
When Genshin Impact was first announced, miHoYo clarified that it would be available on PC, PlayStation 4, mobile devices, and Nintendo Switch. However, due to an unspecified delay, the Switch version would not be immediately available upon the game’s exit from beta and main launch. At the time of writing, the Switch version of Genshin Impact has still not been released.
Is Genshin Impact on Switch?
While miHoYo has said that the Switch version of Genshin Impact is still in development (or at the very least, they haven’t outright cancelled it), there is no currently set release date. It is not known precisely what is holding up the Switch port’s development, aside from the usual suspects like the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also not known whether the game will launch on Switch in its completed state or in a beta state, and in the case of the latter, how long it would be in that state. It’s difficult to say, as while the PC and mobile versions of Genshin Impact have cross-save functionality with each other through miHoYo’s servers, the PlayStation version logs you in with a PSN account and holds separate save data. Considering this, it is possible the Switch version could launch in its own self-contained ecosystem like the PS4 version.
All we can do for the time being is wait and see what miHoYo says. If you’re playing the PC or mobile version and plan to switch to the Switch version later, you may want to keep your expectations level.
