How to use Residual Manifest Effectively in Dead by Daylight

There are many flashlights like it, but this one is mine.

A flashlight is definitely one of those things you don’t realize the importance of until you’re caught without it, especially in a nightmarish otherworld like Dead by Daylight’s. In a realm that runs on darkness, a source of strong light is your best friend, especially with a skilled hand holding it. Here’s how to use Residual Manifest effectively in Dead by Daylight.

How to use Residual Manifest Effectively in Dead by Daylight

In Dead by Daylight, Residual Manifest is a Survivor Perk that’s included in Survivor Haddie Kaur’s perk set. You can unlock the first tier of it for every Survivor by raising Haddie to Prestige level 1, or by finding it in the Shrine of Secrets. If you’re a fan of shining Flashlights in a Killer’s face, then buddy, you’ve just found your favorite Perk.

Here’s a basic explanation of Residual Manifest’s two effects:

  • When you blind the Killer with a Flashlight, Firecrackers, Flash Grenade, or Blast Mine, they are inflicted with the Blindness status effect for 20-30 seconds, depending on the Tier of the Perk
  • Once per Trial, if you search through a chest that’s already been opened, you’re guaranteed a basic Flashlight item

Right off the bat, that Blindness penalty can be absolutely devastating against most, if not all Killer types. When a Killer is suffering from Blindness, they can’t read Auras, even if their abilities would normally let them. Killers can see Auras of Exit Gate switches and items related to their powers, but anything else, including Players, is obscured, and for a long time at that. When you’re up against a Killer that specializes in Aura-tracking like The Shape, The Ghost Face, or The Legion, a 20-second Blindness is basically like putting a bag over their heads, which gives your team all the time they need to focus on objectives.

Even if you don’t have a Flashlight handy, Residual Manifest helps with that too. You can always source a basic Flashlight from an opened chest (opened by you or someone else) for a light-based assault. This is helpful if you’re up against a light-sensitive Killer like The Wraith or The Nurse and need to adjust your strategy on the fly.

If you want to get really crafty, you can synergize Residual Manifest with Flashbang or Blast Mine. You can help your team by standing watch over them while they work on a Gen; when the Killer approaches, chuck your Flashbang or set off a Blast Mine to hit them with the Blindness debuff and give your team a chance to scatter. You can also synergize Residual Manifest with Built to Last to optimize your Flashlight usage, restoring its charge by hiding in lockers. With a Flashlight with a drastically boosted battery, you’ll become a Killer’s worst nightmare.

Residual Manifest is good for Survivors that like to play aggressively and get right in a Killer’s face in the team’s interest. Just make sure you know where a Killer’s eyes are before you try to blind them, because they’re not always where you might think.
