How to Unlock the Sil’dihn Subterrane Variant Dungeon in FFXIV

I'm not even going to try to pronounce that.

Bizarre, but helpful for adventurers looking for something fun to do. If you’d like to visit such a place, then here’s how to unlock the Sil’dihn Subterrane Variant Dungeon in FFXIV.

How to Unlock the Sil’dihn Subterrane Variant Dungeon in FFXIV

The Sil’dihn Subterrane, and no, I don’t know how that’s pronounced, is a Variant Dungeon in FFXIV. In fact, it’s the very first Variant Dungeon, introduced in version 6.25. A Variant Dungeon, if you didn’t know, features variable rules and layouts. You can have up to four players in your party with any character role and the path through the dungeon branches and changes.

All Variant Dungeons have a level entry requirement of at least 90, so you’re going to have to grind up to that level before you can set foot in any of them. It’s just as well since you can’t even unlock Variant Dungeons until you’ve completed the entire main questline for the Endwalker content. That questline alone will probably get you most of the way there.

Once those aspects are out of the way, make your way to Old Sharlayan and talk with Osmon, located at X:12, Y:13.4. Talking with Osmon will simultaneously begin and complete the quest “An Odd Job,” which will unlock access to Variant and Criterion Dungeons in general.

After that, talk to Shallow Moor at X:12.0, Y:13.3, also in Old Sharlayan. He should be standing right next to Osmon. This will begin the quest “A Key to the Past.” Moor will task you with speaking with Kokoshu in Ul’dah, who in turn will lead you to the Sil’dih Excavation Site in Black Brush. Kokoshu will show you the entrance to the Sil’dihn Subterrane, tasking you with speaking with the excavation foreman within. This will be your first entrance into the Variant Dungeon proper, and after you clear it, you can speak to the foreman to proceed with the quest.

After you’ve finished your first run through the Sil’dihn Subterrane, you can come back whenever you want with different characters and gear. Explore the caves for fun and profit!
