The Level Checker was an enemy type encountered in early Final Fantasy games, with the earliest example being in the final dungeon of Final Fantasy V. They appeared again in Final Fantasy XIV, bouncing around on one leg and rating the levels of potential entrants to Omega’s experiment. It’d be pretty funny to ride around on one of those things, and thanks to the Endwalker expansion, you can, though perhaps not in the way you’d expect. Here’s how to unlock the Level Checker Mount in Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker.

To get your hands on the Level Checker Mount, you need to swap 12 Chi Bolts with a particular NPC, Nesvaaz, hanging out at Radz-at-Han, specifically at X: 10.6, Y: 10.0. In order to get Chi Bolts, you need to defeat a particular FATE boss, Chi. Chi only shows up during the FATE “Omicron Recall: Killing Order,” and before you can do that, you need to complete a series of FATEs assigned to you by N-0265 at Base Omicron. It should also be noted that “Omicron Recall: Killing Order” takes place in the endgame area, Ultima Thule, so you probably shouldn’t even try this until you’ve at least cleared Endwalker’s main story.

To unlock the Level Checker Mount in Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker

  1. Complete N-0265’s FATEs to summon Chi
  2. Defeat Chi at least twice to get 12 Chi Bolts
  3. Trade Chi Bolts to Nesvaaz for the Level Checker

Once you complete those FATEs, “Omicron Recall: Killing Order” will activate, and Chi will spawn in at X:34.4, Y:21.4. Unfortunately, there are a couple of catches to this: firstly, Chi’s spawn is on a cooldown timer. Once it’s summoned and defeated, it can’t be called up again for at least 48 hours in real time. Secondly, Chi will only drop six Chi Bolts upon defeat, and that’s assuming you have a full party with you, so to get the 12 you need for the Level Checker Mount, you’re going to need to defeat it at least twice.

This is a very difficult encounter, so if you can, try to join up with a party that’s already going for it. As long as you follow their lead and avoid Chi’s danger zones, you should make it through okay. Once you’ve gotten all 12 Chi Bolts, you can trade them in for the Level Checker. You won’t be riding on top of it, though; instead, you get sucked into its little screen while it hops around!
