How to Return Ratoo’s Heart in Cult of the Lamb

Help Ratoo win back his heart!

Ratoo is arguably one of the best NPCs in Cult of the Lamb; he offers you valuable rewards for completing exciting challenges, he heals you for free while on crusades, and he even provides comedic dialogue amidst the horrors of Cult of the Lamb’s demonic dungeons! Although Ratoo may be everyone’s favorite rat, he’s hiding a terrible secret: he has no heart!

Ratoo’s chest was ripped apart long before the Lamb ever came to power, and his heart was stolen from him by a mysterious woman! Ever since this heartless crime (pun intended) was committed against him, he’s been fruitlessly searching for the heart that once was his. Many players simply assumed that his heart was gone for good and his situation couldn’t be helped, but this isn’t actually the case. You can actually help return Ratoo’s heart in Cult of the Lamb!

How to Return Ratoo’s Heart in Cult of the Lamb

Only you can help Ratoo get his heart back! Not only is giving him his heart back the right thing to do, but you will also get rewarded handsomely for your efforts: upon the return of his lost heart, Ratoo will reward you with a permanent increase in health! Ratoo will gift you with an additional half-heart that will be tacked on to the rest of your red hearts. Everyone can use more health in Cult of the Lamb, so follow these steps to help Ratoo get his heart back:

Summon Hathor the Demon

You’ll need to go on a crusade to get Ratoo’s heart back, but first, you’ll need to summon a demon. Summoning demons is quick and easy in Cult of the Lamb, and you only need to summon one for this mission.

You’ll need to summon Hathor, the heart-shaped demon that provides you with free health while on crusades. While you’re summoning this demon, however, make sure you don’t sacrifice a favorite follower, because you won’t be getting them back after your crusade is over!

Embark on a Crusade

Once you’ve successfully summoned Hathor (using a follower that you don’t care for), you’ll need to go on a crusade. It doesn’t matter which dungeon you enter (Darkwood, Anura, Anchordeep, Silk Cradle), so don’t worry about picking the wrong one.

Although the dungeon that you pick doesn’t really matter, it is best to choose a difficult dungeon, like the Silk Cradle, because it has more rooms for you to pick from. You’ll need to locate Ratoo in a specific dungeon room if you want to give him his heart back; the more rooms a dungeon has, the better!

Find Ratoo

To return Ratoo’s heart, you’ll need to locate him in one of the heart rooms while on a crusade. Dungeon rooms with the heart symbol on the map are heart rooms, you’ll need to somehow navigate to one if you want to give Ratoo his hard-won heart back!

Heart rooms are always beneficial to players because they offer free healing; in this case, heart rooms are extra beneficial because, not only will you be regaining all your lost health, but you’ll also be gaining a permanent health increase! You can occasionally stumble across a heart room by accident if you choose a dungeon room with the question mark symbol on it, but it’s best not to rely on this method due to its inconsistency.

Give Ratoo the Heart (Hathor)

Once you find a heart room, you’ll be given some unique dialogue from Ratoo: “I know that rhythm! The sturdy beat of that heart, it could only be mine! Wayward heart returned at last! Crusader, the hollow of my chest yearns for a reunion. May I?” The heart that Ratoo recognizes to be his will be your demonic follower, Hathor.

You’ll need to agree to hand over the demon to Ratoo to complete this heartfelt mission (pun intended), and although you’re essentially handing him one of your followers, he definitely makes the decision worth it. After you hand over the heart, Ratoo will reward you for your efforts with a permanent half-heart increase in health!
