How to Leave Crusades Early in Cult of the Lamb

Sometimes you just don't have time to finish a crusade.

Cult of the Lamb is many things, including occasionally difficult. This game is incredibly entertaining and unique, but if you’re playing at any difficulty other than “easy”, then you’re in for a bit of a rough time. Crusades can be especially dangerous, as there’s always the threat of failure and death hanging over your head should you not successfully complete them. There’s no shame in leaving a crusade early; there’s a reason the developers added a “premature escape” feature into the game. Follow this guide if you’d like to be able to leave crusades early in Cult of the Lamb!

How to Leave Crusades Early in Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb’s crusades can be no joke, especially if you’ve defeated that area’s Bishop and subsequently made all of the enemies twice as difficult. Whether it’s because a follower unexpectedly died and you don’t want to come back to a camp full of vomit, or you’re on half a heart and know for certain that you won’t be able to clear the next room, leaving crusades prematurely can be a literal life-saver in Cult of the Lamb. You won’t be able to prematurely leave crusades early game, but there is an ability that you can gain later in the game that will allow you to leave a crusade at any time you want! This permanent ability is called the Omnipresence ability.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to gain this ability until after you’ve defeated the first boss in the game, Leshy. Once you defeat Leshy, you will gain your first Heart of the Heretic, which is an item that can be traded for exclusive powers in the game. For each Bishop you defeat in Cult of the Lamb, you will be rewarded with a Heart of the Heretic; you’ll be able to gain numerous abilities to help you on your future crusades, but the Omnipresence ability is definitely the most valuable ability to get early on. Thankfully, Leshy is one of the easier Bishops to defeat, and you shouldn’t have too much of a problem taking him down (unless you’re on one of the hard difficulties).

Once you’ve got your Heart of the Heretic, head back to your home camp and go inside your Temple. Once you’re in the Temple, open up the Temple Alter and select the Crown icon (it should be located right next to the Sermon icon). Above the numerous unlockable fleeces, there should be a row of potential abilities under the Crown label; among these potential abilities is the Omnipresence ability. To gain this ability, select the Omnipresence option and trade in your Heart of the Heretic. Once you’ve done this, you’ll never have to worry about getting stuck on a crusade ever again!

Once you’ve traded in the Heart of the Heretic for the Omnipresence ability, you’ll be able to leave crusades early in Cult of the Lamb, as many times as you want! You’ll never have to worry about dying prematurely or returning to a camp full of dead bodies and vomit (which is never something you want to come back to after a harrowing crusade run).
