How to Set up a Guitar Controller in Fortnite Festival?

The workaround that we’re going to talk about is possible only with the PC version of Fortnite Festival, so there are still no workarounds for a console that I know of. Even if you feel disappointed about this fact, you shouldn’t be, as the developers themselves have mentioned that the instrument controller is under development.

Before you even start configuring your guitar controller, you need to go to Settings from your Main Menu and then go to Mouse and Keyboard settings and turn on both Ignore Controller Input and Lock Input Method as Mouse options. Doing this will help your computer not mix your new instrument controller with your keyboard and mouse on who’s in charge. The guitar is, obviously.

JoyToKey Workaround

The main helper in our journey toward playing Fortnite Slash style is a software called JoyToKey. This program allows you to easily setup any joystick/controller with your PC games. Now connect your guitar controller to your PC (cable or Bluetooth, doesn’t matter) and open JoyTo Key.

When you open JoyToKey you will immediately see a screen with Joystick tabs, and one of those is going to be highlighted. That one is your connected instrument controller and that’s where you need to edit your keys.

Note: In case you don’t see a highlighted Joystick tab in JoyToKey, go to Options and change the “Number of Joysticks to configure” to about 10.

From this point, everything is easy, really. After you select the highlighted joystick, scroll down till you see Button 1, 2, 3, etc., and select the cell in the Field column next to each button you have. I’ll assume that when you press your 5 guitar buttons, you will get Button 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in JoyToKey software.

Since the game has default guitar-playing controls set on D, F, J, K, and L, you just need to input these letters next to Button 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. But don’t forget to bind your Overdrive key to whatever is the easiest on your controller instrument.

This setup will work with guitar controllers such as Xbox 360 guitar, PS3 guitar, or Raphnet guitar.

Important: Make sure you always press all the guitar buttons with your JoyToKey software open to check which physical button corresponds to which Button control in the software. Some guitars will follow the natural order of things, and the physical buttons from left to right will be Buttons 1 to 5. However, sometimes this won’t be the case.
